"Notalgia" is right.
That needs to be his new name.

I get he has no cut off date anymore... but it's hard to be "nostalgic" for something that came out last year. Wonder if he'll mention that

The best review of the year, just for Pinky and The Brain alone.

I love that he got rid of the cutoff date. The critic's fun stuff, and I'd rather him do more stuff that's fresh in my mind.

I never actually saw this. But it does bring to mind a conversation I had with a co-worker shortly after it came out.
Him: "Makes you think."
Me: "About?"
Him: "Well, how bad things could be. I mean, that could really happen."
Me: "What?"
Him: "The Purge. That could really happen."
Me: "...? No it f***in couldn't."
The he started talking about conspiracies and shit, and I decided it was time to go on break.

If all crime was legal for one day, I'd torrent every single episode of Friends.

When The Core has a less cringe-inducing premise, your movie really has a deep hole to try to climb out of.

Ha, the Core. Another movie where someone said to me: "It really makes you wonder would happen if..."
And I'm all "No. It doesn't make ANY sense."
Just watched the review; I was all set to praise em for sounding LIKE Pinky&The Brain, and whaddya know, there they are. Well played.
Tamara is also entertaining and cute.

It's been years, so I don't remember the specifics of the conversation; but the gist of me not wanting to see it was how f***ing stupid the very idea was and they tried to defend it.

Suspending disbelief over the premise, this movie could've been good but it falls into all the bad clichés and is just a subpar home invasion film. Apparently The Purge: Anarchy is really good because it's the movie that this one was meant to be.

What's strange to me about the criticism of The Purge is people who go "It's just a fundamentally stupid concept."
Why?

What's strange to me about the criticism of The Purge is people who go "It's just a fundamentally stupid concept." Why? Well... It is. The concept is absolutely moronic. Granted, he harped on it way too much, and if you can look past it it's a good concept for a stupid outlandish movie series that could go in a lot of different directions. The first movie just wasted it.

I was very "meh" on The Purge. I would have liked it more if Lena Headey had killed her neighbors as soon as the purge ended, because at that point it was personal.
The Purge 3:This time it's purgesonal!

The Purge concept isn't helped by having it set so close to now.
A society of a law abiding society that has 1 day a year to lose all law and order isn't a bad premise. Put that in some dystopian future like The Running Man or something and you've got a movie.
Saying this is going to happen in less that 10 years in the real world just makes it seem more stupid, we've already got the World Cup set for that year, some kind of descent into a situation which could create this world and everybody being totally ok with it strains credibility. With luck, every person on this board will be alive and healthy by that time, are we all gonna start going insane and killing everything one day a year?
