The publisher has to remove the contentious section of the book. Jesse is someone who is a very serious fighter when he thinks he's been wronged. WWE learned this decades ago. Is he the only former wrestler to sue McMahon and win? I believe Warrior also sued him and won. Not too sure about that tho

Like many said, this lawsuit was filed against the man when he was alive. The man made some really horrible accusations towards Mr. Ventura and they turned out to be baseless accusations. And the dude died.
While you could say kharma comes in with the dude dying for defamation of character, but if you let it go....are you saying the guy was right?
I wouldn't want anyone thinking that I backed down because the guy was right, even if he died. The guy lied and tried to make a name for himself off of them, making himself look better than Jesse Ventura and it should be made certain that it is so without question.
The only dick move here is 1.8 million from the estate, but you have to consider lawyer fees and you also have to consider this. If Jesse's lawyers tried to settle and they were turned away, then that's the estate's fault.
So I can't say I completely fault Jesse Ventura here. A man's reputation for his military service was at stake and people take that very seriously.

The publisher has to remove the contentious section of the book. That definitely needed to happen. That would be part of the settlement if I was Jesse as well as money for the attorney fees and some small percentage of the money that the money the book made.

The publisher has already said that the passages that concern this will be removed from future publishings.

Ventura's reputation is probably worse off from the lawsuit than it was before, even if the awards aren't coming from the Kyle estate. The best thing he could do is publicly donate the $1.8 million to charity devoted to helping military widows or something. It going to charity would be the best outcome, certainly, but I guess that's up to him.

"Thank you for your service to our country" I saw that video. While both guys were out of order, it was silly how Jesse kept using the "you never served" argument to somehow think his own arguments were stronger. I was a fan of Jesse during his WWF commentary days and occasionally these days he says something insightful. But this whole conspiracy persona he's adopted is just awful.

He should buy tna and feud with Gunner...on all seriousness its sad that the estate lost that money that would've gone to the widow, but Jesse had the right to defend his character, the jury determined that Kyle lied, if someone wronged me, and then died, I don't think I'd be gracious enough to just end it there.

Jesse will probably never see dime one. In another article I read, in the roughly 12 months following the libelous statement, Jesse's income dropped from approx. $2 million to approx. $200,000.

Ventura did lose income because of it. The guy (and thus also his widow) made money off of the guy's statements. Ventura is now compensated for it. Pretty cut and dry. No reason Ventura should be expected to donate that lost income to charity now.

This Kyle guy is being made out to be a victim, but a simple online search will reveal that he was a nutjob who was actually somewhat of a rogue who wasn't always the most honest person.
Ventura was well within his rights to sue, especially since this all started while Kyle was alive.
I'm siding with Ventura with this 100% and I really hope that people would look at ALL the facts before blindly jumping on him.

I'm with Jesse on this.
Sure Ventura has done far more to destroy his own reputation over the years by becoming a tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist loon of the most cartoonish variety and it might seem harsh that he did didn't drop the lawsuit after Kyle's death . But what people who are calling a Ventura a scumbag are conveniently forgetting was that the lawsuit was started before his death and that its a dick move to make a bullshit story that slanders a person and then set to profit from said story.
That this Kyle fella seemed like a straight up loony tune.

Good for Ventura.

Absolutely. Jesse was being slandered. Kyle and then his widow refused to retract the statement and it wound up blowing up in their faces. He probably won't see a cent of the settlement (his lawyers will get most of that) and, as others point out, Kyle's widow won't be the one paying either.

Jesse definitely got bitched out by Kyle, how did he win this? I'm guessing that the Minnesota Screwjob was in. Really? You were there and can personally attest to what happened?

Judge: Since the jury has found the defendent libel against the plaintiff, this court rules that Jesse Ventura shall be awarded the total of $1,845,000.....*sigh* And, as per the plaintiff's request, let it go on record that Jesse Ventura is a former Navy SEAL and governor of the state of "Minne-soh-tahhh!!!!!!!"....Mr. Ventura, you can't go into my chambers. No, it's not because there is illuminati documents in there. I just don't want you in there because it's my office! Jesse definitely got bitched out by Kyle, how did he win this? I'm guessing that the Minnesota Screwjob was in. So Jesse Ventura from the 80's with the frayed jacket and the bandana is gonna go into present day Jesse Ventura's house and everything turns red before commercial?

They'll probable all settle for something else rather than go through the appellate process. After attorney's fees, Jesse isn't going to clear that much.
