FRIDAY BYU at Connecticut, 7:00/4:00 PM, ESPN Bowling Green at Western Kentucky, 7:30/4:30 PM, CBSSN Jacksonville State at #8 Michigan State, 7:30/4:30 PM, BTN Colorado State vs. Colorado, 9:00/6:00 PM, FOXS1 UTSA at Houston, 9:00/6:00 PM, ESPNU UNLV at Arizona, 10:30/7:30 PM, ESPN BYU/UConn- Feels like it'll be a close and low scoring affair, I give the edge to BYU.
Bowling Green/WKU- I think Bowling Green. WKU's improved steadily since making the division jump but Bowling Green can be a team that surprises.
JackState/Michigan State- J-State is a good school in their division, and they have beaten Division 1 teams before, and they may perform better than the OTHER Gamecocks did this week, but the Spartans should handle this soundly.
Colorado State/Colorado- Always a close game, and usually a good game. I'm giving this one to the Rams though, but it could go either way.
UTSA/Houston- This is another one that can go either way. Giving the edge to Houston though.
UNLV/Arizona- Gonna go with Arizona. UNLV can be an interesting team but I think Arizona will open up well.

I apologize for my being Tardy on opening night especially since it was hosted by my beloved Aggies. A former student and protege of mine graduated from a very important school for him and I feel justified in missing the season opener. That said, I DVR'd it but caught the highlights after the game. So allow me to begin by saying something decidedly not humble: What-Did-I-Say?! Kenny Hill can run the offense built to exploit his strengths. Kevin Sumlin, not Johnny Manziel was the driving force. Manziel was dynamic and truely spectacular. But, the team needed his distractions to go away. Kenny Hill 511 yards broke Johnny Manziel's school record in his first start. So as I said a few tems, they will be fine without him. Now that defense showed some improvement but as mentioned here, the secondary is suspect. They have speed but talent would be better. Freaking ESPN didn't wait until the teams had left the field before they started the "the playoff committee saw this one" stuff. A bit premature considering they play Lamar next week. I love Boeacherreport for running their predictions story today. It had A&M playing Texas in the Texas bowl. I like the sound of that. Happy right now, but I'll be happier still if they can show a bit more on defense. Thoughts going forward: Michigan is going to run it up on App state in revenge for the death of Lyod. Carr's coaching career. Bama will in fact destroy WVU. WVU will go to the air in a hurry up and Bama will show their adaptation to up tempo and then A&M will need to be worried Navy vs OSU is giving my spidey sense a slight tingle. Oh and mad props to Navy for their "summer whites" uniforms. The actual US N any uses that term for a uniform combination worn by sailors in the fleet Speaking of white uni's. Texas A&M is still undefeated while wearing their Icy Whites. That will end sometime, but its nice right now Michigan state will steam roll in conference play Has Alabama really adapted to it? They had a year to adapt between A&M and Oklahoma and obviously failed to, I don't know if I see them doing it now that they have only 5 players returning on defense. That said, I do think they'll beat WVU, because WVU isn't very good. You still need to be a solid team to beat Bama, you just need to be solid and fast, fast alone won't cut it. Ya, there is a reason Saban was railing against the HUNH offense this offseason. He isn't worried about player-safety, it's about his D being susceptible to it. You can bet he wasn't liking what he saw tonight from ATM.

Weird moment in the Owls-Vandy game about 14 minutes left in the 2nd and the ref declares a one-timout per quarter deduction for Vanderbilt for having "Anchor Down" on the back of their uniform a call apparently within new NCAA (or SEC?) rules banning such things. which begs the question how come it took the refs an entire quarter to discover the violation
Apparently Vanderbilt is protesting and waving emails at the refs saying they got the jerseys approved by the SEC

While I understand the Commodore Vanderbilt connection and all, but a school in Nashville having an anchor as a logo is kinda funny. Not as bad as Hurricanes in Tulsa, but still funny.

I think the Cougers can pull off a win against the Roadrunners. It is their first night in a new Stadium, so they are going to pull out all stops Same with Baylor on Saturday.

As a PA Man I have to pop in and say that Temple looked REALLY great vs Vandy. Forcing 7 Turnovers, and P.J. Walker looked really sharp. Temple could be a tough team in the MAC this year, and I wouldn't be shocked if Penn State gets all they can handle from them too. Vandy could really just suck this year and that's why Temple looked so good but since Temples a local state team that some people I know have gone to, gotta show some love to the Owls for a great Kickoff Day Showing

I had zero clue Boise State was playing Ole Miss last night. Those all-orange helmets were so confusing.
Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon's opener against Indiana State. As long as it's the 2013 outcome instead of the 2012, I'm fine.

Yeah, I didn't rule it out.

Derek Mason just looked lost as a coach.

Penn State had their rally yesterday. the numbers for the rally has been 10,000. The numbers I saw beforehand estimated 15-20,000 fans overall making the trip.

Vanderbilt's "Anchor Down" jerseys, which were the subject of controversy during the Commodores' season-opening game against Temple on Thursday night, will not be returning to the field.
That's the word from the NCAA, which has ruled that all schools, except the military service academies, may not put slogans on the back of their players' jerseys.
