Too bad for EY. His reign will go down as a mile marker of the road to ruin on a DVD or book or whatever about the death of TNA. I always liked him and was glad he got his shot. The way they did it was the schitz though. A WWE take off in my opinion

With EY, they'd spent YEARS making him an ineffectual goof. It wasn't his fault that them suddenly thrusting him to the title was seen for exactly what it was. No one could've overcome that booking that quickly.

Extinction should be the name of TNA's last event. Not bad. Would fit in that wonderfully ironic "WCW Greed" way. Any chance they could get "TNA Stupidity" accepted?

The way they did it was the schitz though. A WWE take off in my opinion Agreed; I remember making a thread soon after his title win saying he was one of the best case studies we've ever seen of what's wrong with TNA. You've got a talented wrestler who gets over with his ring work and his charisma, he hosts his own cable TV show, he's been a long time presence in your company...lots of good things going for him, but obviously he's mostly been used as a comedic character, so while you could build him up into a World Title contender, it wasn't likely going to work overnight. So TNA takes this guy and...makes him champion overnight. Young's title matches once he won the belt were mostly very good, but you can't put the cart before the horse, and the crowd never fully accepted him as champion. If they had shown an ounce of forethought they could've built him up well, re-legitimized him as a contender, and had a really good face champ on their hands, but TNA has just never, ever fully understood how you build something up over time. It's a pity, and it stinks that Young might be somewhat tarnished by that, as none of it was his fault.

I feel like if they gave Eric Young the same story, and he didn't have a huge bushy beard, people would've accepted if rather than viewing it as a ripoff of Daniel Bryan's story.

It was a story of a long term goofy jobber suddenly winning the world title from a guy who basically was Barry Horowitz with a posse and we suppose to buy him as the top dog because of that. The Daniel Bryan swagger jacking was just the icing on the cake.

I'm sorry man, but if you take out the extreme similarities to the whole Daniel Bryan story, you are left with a guy who had won match in the past 16 months on TNA programming and in one night won 2 matches to become the Champ. Let alone his entire run in recent memory consisted of him being a complete and utter joke. Sorry strip out the Bryan similarities and it still sucked ass.

A part of me expected EY being a riff on D. Bryan was intentional because they were going to toy with audience expectations. No way they were going to do eerily similar shit and play it straight, right? Build up your bearded underdog champion to go up against a guy who has an army at his back...kinda make it look like he'll have a fairy tale ending.. Splash that "reality" all over people that while EY may have the crowd behind him, he was still a guy who has wins in the single digits for over a year and Magnus was still the champion, meaning at least he was competent and he always had other people ready to put the boots to potential challengers. I have no idea why I thought they were actually going to make Magnus look somewhat decent by being able to beat the shit out of someone while he's champion. I have no idea why I thought they were going to do a serious build to EY vs. Magnus.. Maybe I was the one really taking the crazy pills.

Yeah, take out the Daniel Bryan similarities and you still have a comedy jobber, who hasn't won a match in over a year, winning the world title without any build.
if they wanted to tell that story of Eric Young world champion. They could have easily booked it.
For instance same setup where Young gets the contendership in the first match... during the second after a valiant effort Young can't compete with a fresh Magnus, and Magnus retains.
Followed by Eric Young deciding that he can win it he just has to train more or something followed by going on a tear of winning matches to get back to contendership ,while Magnus defends the title against random challengers.
It's a simple build and story admittedly... but it's a hell of a lot better than what we got

MVP is gotta be regretting his decision to join tna, he was the main baby face, then had a turn without any reason behind it, then hurt his knee, and probably pissed off wwe by not keeping his work and returning after new japan. Guess his lionsgate deal was bullshit.

he was the main baby face, then had a turn without any reason behind it Part of a TNA contract requires that you turn for little/no reason when you're high on the card.

Guess his lionsgate deal was bullshit. I have to believe it's just a money gig anyways. He seemed well off in Japan, he probably could have joined TNA whenever he wanted. Just seems more likely that they approached him and offered enough money that the quality of work wasn't important.
