Personally I wonder why the FA thought it was a good idea to spend 20M+ and write an encyclopedia-sized book on why England would be a good host for the World Cup, embarassing Prince William in the process.
They could have simply called a press conference and said "we have all the stadiums, the transportation infrastructure, perfect summer conditions, an established football culture, all the hotels and accomodation, and gays won't be beaten to a pulp, so we're better than Russia"
Yet they only got 2 votes in the bidding process. Something was clearly suspect.
As for 2022, if FIFA wanted to make a gesture of goodwill to the bidders who clearly wasted their time and money bidding for the tournament when it was obvious now that corrupt FIFA delegates were clearly going to vote for Qatar, they could reimburse them from FIFA's enormous financial reserves.
The lesson the FA should take from the whole sorry situation is to not bid for future World Cups. Focus on the EURO's. England could easily host one of those again, and they have more power within UEFA than they do within FIFA.

Thing is that EUROs will not be hosted by single nation anymore after the next one. It's going to be held in different parts of Europe.

For now. I believe the plan is for that to go on, as to reduce countries expenses with the new stadiums and what not (and to not build fuurely useless stadiums like we have over here (Leiria and Algarve stadium don't even have teams playing there. And when Leiria did have the local team there they got the lowest assistance ever for a Portuguese league game with 100 people)).

Woah, hold on - if they did that, we may never get a sequel to United Passions!

This whole process has been embarrassing really. FIFA should just choose who they want to host tournaments instead of having the countries wasting their money on pointless bids.
Thankfully UEFA did give England the Euro 2020 final and semi's so that's something but I don't like the whole set up of the 2020 tournament at all. Should be kept to 1 or 2 countries hosting max.

Speaking of Wigan... link--------------- Sheffield United withdraw offer for Ched Evans to train with them. Took them long enough.

Today's football news is incredibly depressing.

Jermaine Beckford is at my beloved Preston for the season on loan. Great player that post Leeds never really got the chance to settle in and shine, I think he can really help us push on and get an automatic promotion spot. Also from a League One perspective I think we have the best strike force.

I remember him playing for Carlisle the season they nearly got promoted to the Championship and he was fantastic, I really thought when Forest signed him he would only continue to excel but then his career kinda stagnated, glad he's found his form again in the past 18 months or so. He's a really good fit at Preston.

Frustrating performance from Arsenal, pretty much dominated the first half and couldn't score. If you can't put away your chances you ain't going to win simple as that. Wilshere's 1 on 1 with De Gea for example. De Gea may be Man U's best player atm but Wilshere should still be putting that away.

Man City still in Champions League after beating Bayern 3 2 thanks to an Aguero hat trick.
Andy Townsend's commentary though was embarrassing. Commentated like a fan.
Lionel Messi is now the top scorer in Champions League history.

That Man City-Bayern game was Man City-QPR all over again. Same scoreline, same order of goals scored, same letting a lead slip despite a man advantage, and same injury time winner scored by the same player.

That's the flaw with a Guardiola team
Awesome in possession, but they wilt under pressure.

Much better from Arsenal today. Unfortunately, topping the group now appears unlikely. Then again, given their luck with the R16 draws in recent years, they probably would have gotten a 2nd-placed Barcelona had they topped the group.

Well the one year recently I remember us actually finishing top of the group we got AC Milan and got stuffed 4 nil at the San Siro. So there you go.
