I was always of the mind regardless of the act, the artists who performed for the halftime show got paid to do so because...y'know...they've got to rehearse....
They've actually got to WORK.
So I just thought them getting the massive payday and publicity the Superbowl halftime show would undoubtedly be, damn near everyone should want to play for it.
I forget though, this is something based in creativity so of course people with money believe they shouldn't ever have to pay for it, especially since any artist who plays gets "exposure." The whole situation just annoys the shit out of me on all of the levels.

Hey!!! They play hard for 12 seconds at a time. Plus, bang your skull against a 300 pound dude for a while and see what happens. Football would be a decent game if it weren't so f***ing slow. I will never understand this line of thinking because footie is a really slow sport too. It's like trench warfare--carefully and deliberately trying to wear the other team down, charge in to score but ultimately it doesn't usually work and the two teams are back to the game status quo. American Football is like Medieval warfare, a series of very short decisive battles. People line up in formation and the heaviest, strongest people on the field charge into each other. Just like a real battle from that era, plays are decided as soon as part of one of the formations breaks. Sometimes they cut their losses (a 3 yard gain) and sometimes it ends up being a massive rout (defense lets a guy get a 60 yard touchdown reception). I'm glad there are people defending football in this thread. It became even more fun to watch once I started understanding the details of the game. Such a deep sport strategy-wise.

When I was younger, football didn't appeal to me. I thought it was dumb--too many ads, guys crashing into each other, and so on. A lot of the same complaints that are made by other people who aren't familiar with the sport. But after watching the game with other people who have a very strong grasp of how it's actually played and learning from them, I've slowly become a bigger and bigger fan of the game. When two good coaches play opposite one another and their teams go head-to-head, it makes for a very, very exciting game. There's so much going on. Every single position in the formation has to do their job just right or the entire thing can collapse. Admittedly, it's something that a lot of football fans don't even think about. But after building up an in-depth understanding of how it works, it's a blast. Same goes with baseball and basketball.

I started watching BBallBreakdown on YT a year ago and basketball became a lot more interesting once I started being able to follow what the offense was doing, look for backdoor cuts, etc. So that I can actually see plays develop on offense. Baseball is the same way for me, I used to actually get annoyed seeing people at games not watching every single pitch haha. But I'm over that, the point is I enjoy seeing the pitcher and batter duel on each at-bat. There's nothing like seeing someone strikeout by whiffing on a sick breaking ball.

The NFL is a NON-PROFIT organization.
Yet....Roger Goodell commands $30 million a year.
Yep. It's nothing more than greed.

I guess that means KISS is out... That's too bad. Because right now, I want to throw trash at Gene Simmons for his comments on depression.

Well good luck finding some musical act dumb enough to do that. I'll bet $5 that Nickelback or Daughtry will step up.

I want to see Vince McMahon buy the halftime slot and spend the entire time making his ass do tricks.

I think it's a good business decision for the NFL. The amount of free exposure an artist gets from playing the Superbowl far exceeds what the NFL will charge the artist/record company.
If you want your music to be marketed by the biggest company in the United States you should be willing to pay for that kind of advertisement.

If you want your music to be marketed by the biggest company in the United States you should be willing to pay for that kind of advertisement. That works for young new musicians, but what about established acts? Would Tina Turner, RHCP, Madonna, Rolling Stones, U2 and other famous acts need to play the Superbowl to sell tickets on their tours? They are big enough already. They lose the big name acts and the half time show will lose some of its importance.

Or some kid choir singing "God Bless america" that way, we'll have all 3 big patriotic anthems on the same telecast (Absent for the past 2 Wrestlemanias America the Beautiful and Our National Anthem are the other 2 big patriotic anthems) Do you want Bane to destroy the stadium?!
