Watching the Summerslam comeback match it got me thinking.
Wrestlers who had career ending injuries. Let's say somehow, they got over their injuries, whether it be neck, back, concussion, etc... like Shawn, came back full time and torn the house down.
Who would put up the closest type of comeback to Shawn Michaels?
Those five were immediately who I could think of, anyone else you would add to it?

Rick Rude's return would be a hell of a comeback.

Yeah, a zombie apocalypse is about the only way we're going to see an, uhm, Rude Awakening happen.
Still, probably has a better shot than Edge.

I assume you meant 'could have' in Rude's case seeing as he passed away as he was reportedly working on an in-ring comeback. I don't think it really makes sense to vote for Rude. He's just a different kind of case.
Steve Austin has said he could have another match, but it has to be the right situation and he needs ample time to get into proper ring shape. It's not going to be an extended multi-year run like Michaels, but he could have a match. I think Austin is leaning toward never wrestling again, however.
Ricky Steamboat did return and had a few matches. Obviously he doesn't need to wrestle again after his brain aneurysm.
Bret Hart can't come back. WWE let him have some smoke and mirrors matches with Vince, Miz, and Nexus, but he can't truly return to the ring. In these cases, others worked around Bret and Bret did a few offensive moves that he was able to do. The biggest was a scoop slam to Slater if I recall.
I don't think Edge will try to comeback. I know some people who have career-ending injuries will heal over several years to where they might be able to have one more match, but I doubt Edge wants to risk anything.

Didn't Stone Cold already do something similar?

Didn't Stone Cold already do something similar? Not really. He has never come back from his last match with The Rock. He was scheduled to fight Jonathon Coachman on Taboo Tuesday or Cyber Sunday one year, but he pulled out of it. He worked out in the ring on Tough Enough with one of the competitors and has said that's the most he's done in the ring since retiring. Of course he has Stunned several people since retiring.

Hasn't Stone Cold stated that he could get back into the ring if he felt that it was worth it?
Steamboat and Bret are too old, Edge wouldn't be able to pass a physical, and Rude is, well, dead.

Nah, I meant after his near career-ending neck injury in 97.

Hard to believe but in 8 days HBK will be retired as long as he was the first time. 1614 days.

I voted Other, but I can't for the life of me think of someone who retired from injury in their prime and could still realistically come back today. Maybe if Kurt Angle had actually retired when he left WWE instead of going to TNA, but he's just wrecked his body worse.

I'm surprised at the break neck speed people caught the Rick Rude thing.

Y'know, more I think about it, outside of Austin, Rude probably does stand the best chance of returning.

Bob Backlund came to mind.
Again. After the 1990s.
I'm not entirely joking, given his -now irrelevant- refusal to go into the Hall of Fame until he was done and him looking pretty damned good for his age (compared to 5/10 years ago Backlund) the fan in me wouldn't mind seeing a short return run as a pure technician given the current roster of talent who can work with that style very well.

Rick Rude's return would be a hell of a comeback. "I want all these fat, out-of-shape, inner-city sweathogs to keep the noise down, as I rise up from the grave, take my robe off and show the ladies what a REAL sexy zombie looks like. Hit my music!" "Also, brains."

When Rick Rude takes it all off, he can take it ALL off.
