Just watching an old Kurt Angle match on the network and he hit the Olympic/Angle Slam and there was just absolutely no reaction from the crowd - no one believed it could have any impact anymore - Michael Cole and Tazz tried their hardest to make it look massive with the kick out, but just no.
So who else had a finishing move that used to be massive and later on just became 'another move'
Some I can think of -
Edge - Edgecution Undertaker - Chokeslam

Steve Austin: Million Dollar Dream and, before that, the Stun Gun (The MDD counts a touch more than the Stun Gun, I guess)
Ric Flair: The Figure Four (It never ceased to be popular, but it was never a truly devastating, match-winning move)
Jericho: The Lionsault (He wins with it, but not with any kind of regularity)

Didn't really watch WCW back in the day so not sure how big a move this was, but Booker T's Bookend seemed to just lose all meaning as time went by.

Thankfully, The Cobra never suffered this fate.

SummerSlam pretty much killed the credibility of Miz's finisher.

In WCW, I can hardly remember a time it wasn't a match ended, it's when he came to WWE, that its effectiveness was phased out due to the similarity to the Rock Bottom.

I still loathe the fact that the DDT became as commonplace as a vertical suplex. I'd love for WWE to ban the move as a regular maneuver and have someone build it back up as a legitimate finish. Ambrose would be perfect for it. Same basic impact as Dirty Deeds, but not as stupid looking.

The funny thing is, because guys like Ryder never get close enough to hitting their finisher for anyone to kick out of it, I could imply that their finishers are more powerful than say, Cena's Attitude Adjustment.

Ya, he didn't even use it in WWE until he feuded with Rock, where they straight up called it a Rock Bottom rip off. Then when he turned face he started using it again as a mid-match move but I don't remember WWE ever taking it seriously as a finisher again.

You could say that, or you could watch them execute said-finisher within the first minute of their match and the opponent kicks out at 1.

That's always been my point on the Cobra. If Santino landed it, you died. Probably the least kicked out of finisher in the last decade.

Finishers lost all their impact the minute it became commonplace to kick out of one (or more) of them in every single World Title match in every company.
I don't believe that every single finisher needs to work like instant death; if you build up the psychology of a move correctly, you could have a guy like Angle who uses the Ankle Lock multiple times in matches, both to wear down and then to finish his opponent, something like that. However, the instant death finisher just doesn't really exist anymore, since you can't watch a main event, be it on PPV or on regular TV, or in just about any company, and see a guy win on his first attempt using his finisher, with some very, very rare exceptions.

Jack Swagger's Gutwrench Powerbomb.
He needed THREE of these to beat ZACK RYDER. WHO HAD A RIB INJURY!

Jorts Cena has basically killed the entire roster's finishers, save Brock Lesnar's.

I still hate Warrior took like 5 of Savage's elbows. It was Randy's idea, but still hate it.
2? Ok, sure. But 5?
