I don't see much progression for him at this point. He should just be putting over the younger generation. Orton is 34. Just a year older than 'young guys' like Bryan he needs to turn face. Lesnar vs Orton could be awesome It's not so much age as time. He's been an almost constant fixture of the WWE product and main event for that span of time. He needs to scale down to the upper midcard for a while, for something fresh to do. Not as a depush, but because he's got nothing to do in the main event for the time being.

If they would just start gluing fake hair over his tattoos and pretending he was an ape, instant fresh character turn.

Tweener turn and then job to Lesnar. Take some time off. Feud with whomever has replaced him in the authority upon his return (but NOT with HHH!!!)

I've always been a fan of Randy's, but he's the third most stale guy in the company right now, behind Kane and Cena and just barely ahead of Big Show. I like the thought of him turning against the Authority, or him failing them, and Kane/Rollins crush his head through the cinderblocks of doom, giving him a few months off, and letting him return as a face

Orton should really take a year off or something. He's just so stale, and he's done everything he can possibly do, and he's too "important" to drop to the US or IC titles like Sheamus can. Sheamus was too "important" to drop to the midcard titles at one point, but he did. Ziggler was seen as too "important" to drop to the midcard titles despite being a JTTS, but he did. Orton should as well. I don't mind Orton putting over young talent, but the way his character's been presented since his heel turn last year has been atrocious and is part of a bigger problem. WWE wants us to buy Orton (already established as an unstable, violent sociopath) and Kane (already established as a monster) as willing lackeys to the Authority, which doesn't make any sense at all (see also: Cena and Reigns being presented as anti-authority rebels). Orton is a character who shouldn't answer to anyone, especially not Triple H. Bring back unstable heel sociopath Orton or even dangerous face Orton. Get rid of chickenshit lackey Orton. THEN have him put over young talent while still being a credible threat. The Authority don't want Bryan or Cena or whoever to be champion so badly that they'll put their faith in a violent sociopath like Orton. Kane is a monster, but ever since he's started talking, we've seen that he's an intelligent monster who will lend a helping hand to the forces of evil out of respect.

They would have really good matches I'm sure, and that would really raise the credibility of the title. Too bad that won't happen, but I can dream.

Thing is, how would a face turn = title shot vs. Brock? Orton already can't get a title shot as long as Reigns is around, so turning on HHH would get him this shot? Even so, Orton would just be a victim if he faced Lesnar. He's not winning that match.

Orton is a terrible face. Like, the absolute worst one ever. As a heel he's criminally underrated. Funny watching the smarks be outraged because they're becoming annoyed and irritated by what he does in the ring and his style. Yeah you're kinda...supposed to be.

He is a brilliant worker, has a good look but man does he have nothing character wise at the moment, you can tell he's just a pawn.

Randy could get massively over by becoming a face that just goes nuts and starts hunting the Authority at every turn.
Except that there's a guy doing just that, better than Randy ever could.

One of the few things I enjoy about RAW is Orton either jobbing or not being featured prominently.
Don't take that away from me.

He will be fine. He just needs to add something to his character. I have hated his heel run because he has simply been "heel who works for authority figure" with very few other elements to his character. As the legend killer and the psychopath, he had more of a defined personality and that led to having better feuds. But he should be able to rebound from this streak. Do not forget how shitty of a run he had the couple of years he had before he won the title from Bryan at Summerslam. He lost cleanly to Mark Henry twice, Barrett, Del Rio, Big Show, and Kane cleanly at some point or another. But he remained over (see Vince, top faces losing does not kill them). As long as creative cares enough about him, he can remain interesting.

Orton's like toast. Toast is a staple of your breakfast table; it's reliable and does its role in your breakfast well. It's just that generally, you don't want toast on its own. Toast is pretty boring just by itself. You'd much prefer bacon, eggs, maybe some hashbrowns and THEN toast. It's nice to know toast is there, but toast is never gonna be your first option.

Lesnar vs Orton could be awesome He's not TV young, though. Bryan's only been on the roster for four years now, if you ignore NXT (which only adds about an extra four months or so really), and he's only been prominent since the end of 2011. Orton has been in the main event scene for the past decade.
