Since my last thread about favorite beers got pretty good response, I figure the timing is right for this one. We are not officially into fall yet, but already the stores are starting to stock with the seasonal fair. I can't complain, because fall is my favorite season of the year and pumpkin ale is just one of the many reasons. I have already sampled several different varieties in the last couple weeks, and shall deliver my assessment. Thus far, I have two picks: First up, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale This stuff is absolutely divine. A very smooth beer with loads of spice and flavor, with a stronger bite than most off the shelf beers. My #2 pick is a brand I just discovered called Baked, and I am already in love Much like Weyerbacher, it is loaded with spice and has great flavor. Its not as strong, which makes it better suited to someone who has a low liquor tolerance. Anyone else care to contribute?

I am just starting to try pumpkin beers. I picked up some O'Fallon's Pumpkin Beer which I thought was solid, but I am the furthest thing from an expert on beer.

I'll also just give you all a warning: avoid Shock Top Pumpkin Beer like the freaking plaque. It made me want to....want....want to PUUUUUKE!

While not technically a beer, I have to give a nod to Woodchuck Pumpkin Cider.

Southern Tier Pumking is an excellent imperial pumpkin.
I have to go with the 'ol standby, Shipyard Pumpkinhead. Their Smashed Pumpkin is a close second to the Pumking.

Add in another vote for the Southern Tier Pumking.
The Elysian Brewing Night Owl is probably my 2nd favorite.

I just tried the traveler company's jack o traveler pumpkin. Best I've ever had. Very smooth, delicious and no bad bitter aftertaste.

Never tried a pumpkin beer, just got into craft beers this summer in a big way, though I've tapered off in the last couple of weeks and gone with normal big brewery shit. If I happen upon one and give it a shit, I'll let you know.

Hmmm never knew that there were so many pumpkin beers in the sates.
A year or so ago I saw that some fancy downtown bottle shop had imported the dogfish head one though it was rather pricy so I gave it a miss and I've never seen it since.

Hate to be crass but according to their styles page, there is no such thing as an apple ale in their lineup. www.woodchuck.com/cider/

Except that a hard cider is not an ale because there's no barley or hops.
There is yeast though. I made hard cider once. Get yourself some cider, add cider yeast and let that puppy ferment.
Thanks for clearing that up.
