Sometimes, turns are given up on before they even really start.
Writers realize almost immediately that an upcoming storyline is going to go over with the crowd like a fart in church and the chute is pulled before the plane even takes off.
Some that come to mind right away:
- The New Nation: Well, that was fun for 10 days.
- Alberto Del Rio, super babyface: Was there a person less suited for a main event face push than Alberto Del Rio?
- Eddie Guerrero turns on Tajiri (2003): Chavo had gotten injured and Eddie picked Tajiri as his replacement partner. He eventually turned on Tajiri and put him through the windshield of the lowrider. Unfortunately, SmackDown was taped in Toronto the following week when Eddie was to cut his first promo as a heel. You can imagine how much the crowd loved him in Toronto and the turn was abandoned shortly thereafter.
What else am I missing?

Umaga turned face for about a week.
More recently, Rollins turned heel not too long after Shield officially turned face.

Did the so-called "New Nation" ever actually work as heels on TV?

Hollywood Hogan in 2002. They immediately turned him face after WrestleMania X8.

Eugene's heel turn didn't last long if I remember right.

A Brian Kendrick heel turn from when he was still teaming with Paul London. I think Kendrick walked out on him one week, but then they abandoned it soon after and did a breakup angle with Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch instead.
Then they broke up London and Kendrick in the draft anyway and Kendrick finally did turn heel with the "The Brian Kendrick" gimmick.

Did the so-called "New Nation" ever actually work as heels on TV? They showed up in suits outside the ring and watched a tag match one time. #HEEL

Bryan joining the Wyatts. It was supposed to last a while, hell Bryan's WM attire was supposed to be his Wyatt attire so that's extra proof. Glad it ended when it did.

Jeff Hardy in 2003, although it only got to the formative stages with him being conflicted. It didn't take with the crowd and they abandoned it pretty quick following a HBK superkick.

The way it played out was bear perfect, but Bray really needed a feud with someone where he actually converts someone for more than two weeks.

It'd probably have to be with someone who isn't as crazy over as Bryan is, and then build up sympathy for that guy for the eventual rebellion against Wyatt. Hardly anyone was giving Bryan in The Wyatt Family a chance to play out because they were accusing WWE of trying to kill his overness with the angle.

Eddie Guerrero in 2003. Turned heel on Tajiri after Tajiri got knocked into Eddie's car, played heel the next week on SmackDown but had to have boos piped in because the crowd still cheered him, then the following week came out and made jokes about his Latino temper and went back to being a babyface.

Honestly I can't think of anyone on the roster that would've actually fit in the Wyatt Family. Bray, Harper, and Rowan have a specific "look" so any other members would just stick out like a sore thumb and look out of place. Daniel Bryan didn't really look like a convert so much as just "Daniel Bryan cosplaying as a member of the Wyatt Family". I think the negative reactions were justified. It really did seem like they were trying to side track Bryan from the main storyline and transfer his heat onto Bray.

Who was Bryan originally going to be put with at WrestleMania if he was part of the Wyatts?? Glad it went the way it did though, Bryan's celebration is one of my favourite WrestleMania endings.

Isn't this called the "DDP turn"? He turned heel on Thunder, but, the next Nitro, he was fighting Raven.

Can we stop pretending Face Del Rio was never over? I hope so. Del Rio was over like Rover as a face.
