For me, it's outright evil, hideous, and insane jealousy.
All my life I've been a He-Man and the Masters of the Universe fan (I'm 33). With the passing of each year, I feel my beloved show fall deeper and deeper into obscurity. So many shows from the 80's...most of which I despised as a kid...have had semi-successful comebacks, while MOTU flounders time and time again.
Transformers, Smurfs, G.I. Joe, Alvin and the Chipmunks (Actually, I loved Alvin and the Chipmunks back the 80's, but the movies are all horrible), and My Little Pony have all returned, bigger and more popular than ever. Where's my Masters?? Thor is popular now...give me He-man already! I can't wait for f***ing Cabbage Patch Kids to make a damn return and suddenly explode once again into a stupid phenomenon just so I can have another annoying thing I hated from the 80's give me the finger. Where's Strawberry Shortcake? Might as well bring that stupid show back too.
"Masters of the Universe? That stupid show where he raises his 'fabulous' sword above his head and gets powers? That's gay. Now little ponies, THAT'S where it's at Goldenbane! Oh, and robots too! Why, in the latest movie/cartoon, the Decepticons unveiled their newest member, a vampire werewolf tyrannosaurus tank katana flying aircraft carrier-bot! Oh but don't worry, the Autobots got him covered with their newest member, Oakhard!!! He's the robot who turns into a block of wood! YAY!"

Didn't Cartoon Network try to bring back MOTU a few years back? I seem to remember ads for it.

What I'm getting from this is that Roman Reigns gets very upset if you imply that Rainbow Dash isn't the best pony.

Quick request, folks: when talking about what you feel is the majority of a fandom of, well, anything, try not to say "90% of the fanbase is like THIS!" or something. We have no way of knowing what the vast majority of people are like in any fandom, as we're all obviously going to be exposed far more frequently to the more vocal, often more obnoxious parts of a fanbase. I know most of us don't mean it badly, but it can come off wrong and create a disagreement or argument where there really shouldn't be one.
Aaaaaaanyways:
I have no qualms at all with anybody watching just about anything that's legally available to a general audience. Who am I to complain about that? Any of us posting here are fans of SOMETHING: pro wrestling, certain TV shows or movies, animation, sports, music, anime, comics, video games, etc. Otherwise we wouldn't make very good FANs, would we?
And I have no qualms with people saying that the show may have helped them through some tough times in their lives. Again, at the end of the day, what is good escapism for? It's an emotional release, an outlet for one's feelings, etc. Obsession can be dangerous, but there's nothing wrong with saying "That show helped me during a bout with depression" or something akin to that.
Hell, I'm a big fan of the Avatar/Legend of Korra cartoons, and I'm now pushing 30 years old, AND I credit those 'toons with turning me on to incorporating some aspects of Eastern philosophy into my life, while giving me a deeper appreciation of practices like yoga or Tai-Chi. My girlfriend likes making costumes for cosplaying at conventions and stuff, and I've told her that, in the somewhat unlikely event she ever convinces me to actually go to one, she can use me as canvas to make an adult Aang (from Legend of Korra) costume/makeup job.
Where I do feel there's something a bit off about some of the fandom is just how seriously some of them take it. Like, I've seen people respond to criticism of MLP the way some people respond to having their families, ideology, or religion insulted.
That...that's a bit odd. End of the day, MLP, well-written and fun as it may be, is a TV show, not life or death, not politics, not international conflict, nothing THAT serious. Speaking as a diehard baseball and hockey fan (yes, I've painted my face for big games here and there...stop laughing, damnit), I know what it's like to let something inconsequential drive me up a wall and get me all riled up and angry. Anytime the Mets or Devils have a catastrophic loss, I'm ready to start smashing my head against a brick wall in frustration.
Yet, give me a couple of minutes, and I'm ok. I take a breath in, breathe out, and remind myself "It's a game; don't be a jackass about it." Does this mean I don't REALLY love sports? Of course it doesn't: I still dedicate hours of my time, tons of my energy, and way too much of money partaking in my sports fandoms, it clearly means a lot to me, and it gives me a huge emotional, and with advanced statistics at times an intellectual, release or sense of satisfaction.
But, again...they're games. It's not a new law that might be controversial and effect millions of people, or news about a debate involving medical breakthroughs, or anything like that. It's perfectly fine to see somebody insulting the thing you're a fan of without any factual context and say "Dude, that's screwed up", but it's not worth going nuts over.
Granted, this critique can apply to ANY fandom; it just so happens that the MLP fandom is currently one of the most vocal and widespread online.

It was excellent. Everything to love about Masters with far better writing and art. It's on Netflix.

That show's greatest accomplishment may well have been taking the traditionally silly sounding Skeletor voice (I say that with bottomless love for that voice), and putting it to use making him badass, threatening, and oftentimes scary.

Yep, and less of a hapless jackass. Though I'm still steamed that the show was canceled before we got a proper Hordak.

I even found my figures a few weeks back when cleaning my room, complete with Castle Grayskull, all in good condition. They all even have their accessories! Except for Skeletor. Poor bastard, for some reason he seems to have been glued together at the waste unlike the rest, and it'd degraded real bad, so when I picked him up and stood him across from He Man on my desk, he fell in half. Looked badass, if a little gory. Speaking of which, Human Skeletor when they showed him in the past? Bad. Ass.

Reading through this thread, 2 things come to mind.
1. How come no one ever mentioned Jason Momoa joined The E?
2. It feels like a good number of the issues people seem to have with the MLP fandom fit into either a knee jerk reaction to them, or a third party reaction along the line of rumor and gossip. People have made these guesses and their own theories over them, but never really take a second to just sit back and find out for themselves.

This is how it is for me with kiddie shows in general. I can enjoy them because many of them are indeed well-made, high-quality programs that I think can easily transcend target audiences... and obviously, some have done that. I also still have an imagination But it's more for me because I use them all as an escape from reality for a while. If I didn't, I'd not be alive, period.

What's my beef? Ground with 85% lean. I find it to be the best mixture.
As for the show, the only thing that urks me are the really really really creepy fans who tend to sexualize everything. Thankfully this place lacks of them.

I used to hang around a card and hobby shop. It wasn't really my kind of place, but my roommate and one of my friends worked there so I'd hang around and even help out every now and then. Every MLP fan I met there, which is admittedly a small sample size, had a real martyr complex about it. The slightest comment about how odd it is to watch a show primarily designed for little girls as a twentysomething and instead of going "Nah dude, you're underestimating it. The writing's more clever than you think." they'd act like I'd just personally insulted them. I had one of them DEMAND an apology from me. Straight up stand up from her table and demand I apologize because I told her I thought it was weird how much people obsess over it. Than she accused me of bullying her. The girl is twenty goddamn two.
In my case, it's been bad experiences with a small group of people.
