At least we outlasted the racism thread. Unless someone in here is a equinophobe.

Sorry Glitch, at first I was going to merge this thread inside the regular MLP one, but then I realized what the intent was and put it back. That's why it accidently has me listed as the thread creator. You're just stealing all his glory. Everyone says I need to use my backstage clout to change things more, but they told me this was best for business.

I feel like both sides of this argument are being a little too black and white. There are some smart, well-written shows that are primarily targeted at children. There are also poorly written ones, or ones that skew too young to be smart in the way that appeals to adults. And there are smart, well-written shows that are primarily targeted at adults. There are also schlocky, awful shows targeted at adults. I don't see what's wrong with enjoying both, or exclusively one or the other. Who cares? You can certainly watch whatever you want. That's your prerogative and it doesn't affect me in the slightest. For me personally, I choose to watch the well crafted show made for adults because I'm an adult. That last statement comes off as really condescending.

Honestly, I think a lot of hate online for the show came from people seeing (or gods forbid, interacting with) some of the... extremely obnoxious, extremely loud fans doing their thing, and getting put off because of it. It's like how people raving about how great a wrestler is (or was) endlessly can make people turn on them because of the massive amounts of hype being directed their way. And it likely doesn't help that the brony phenomenon spawned from 4chan, and there are some lingering traces of that influence in how some fans act. And really, the brony push has kind of pulled back in the past few years, it feels like. It's a bit like WoW; the push to get people to play the game (watch the show) has already happened at the peak of its popularity, and everyone who was going to give it a shot already has; they either liked it and stayed, or left - either because it wasn't their thing, or it stopped being their thing.

I agree. It's like any other type of fandom or community really. The larger portions of it are fine and reasonable, but you get that vocal minority that shows the toxic side of the community. Gamers and Comicbook fans have the same issues IMHO.

I don't want to watch shows about...drug dealing, zombies, police, court cases, international terrorism, dark anti-heroes or doctors, so I can understand perfectly why other people reject all that stuff and prefer to watch happier, light hearted shows.

I just got really irritated by obnoxious fans. The ponyfication of EVERYTHING on KYM pisses me off to no end.

To me, it shouldn't matter to anyone else what you like to watch on TV. Everyone has different tastes. I know a bunch of peeps on here that like MLP:FiM. I've seen episodes of it, and while it's a well written show, if I miss an episode it's not the end of the world. Plus they do bring in guest voices to pander to the older audience (Weird Al and John DeLancie to name a few).
I've got my favorite shows to watch, like Lupin, Doctor Who, and Storage Wars. On occasion, I'll pull up the Big Bang Theory on TBS. Different strokes for different folks.

It loses points for being Flash animated. And Canadian. Any show that shares at least three qualities with Johnny Test can't be worth watching. No, sir, uh-uh. :X

For me a child of the 80s My Little Pony is always going to be a girly flying horse toy product which intersected cool adverts for Micro Machines, Masters of the Universe, Mousetrap, Thundercats, Atmosphere the Video Board Game and Scalextric. Much like Darth Vader at the end of Jedi "It's too late for me".
The only thing I don't get about it is the term 'Browny' how did a show called My Little Pony come up with a name Browny for it's fans? Where is the Br in My Little Pony? I hope it has nothing to with the term 'bro' because that makes me think of the CoD video game players.
Also there is a female scout group in the UK called Brownies so whenever I see Browny I think it's referring to that.
The cartoon is fine, It's no Batman the Animated Series but of the two episodes I watched it was ok.

Bro + Pony = Brony As for my opinion...while the fandom is somewhat better then it was when the show started, there still a lot of problem within the fandom. As for the documentary, which one are you talking about because I know there a couple of them and I'd only seen the one that on Netflix.

Bronies are still a thing in 2014?
I mean don't get me wrong, I LOVED the first season and even got a Rarity toy as a gag gift for Christmas but the show started sucking HARD by the end of Season 2.

I thought it was great at first, but I'm just disillusioned now. The show's great IMO, but the fans for the most part can f*** off.

I agree that season 2 was weak. But if I quit watching it at that point I would've never seen some of my favorite episodes of the whole show.

It's been sort of up and down. Season two I mostly liked but it had some terrible stuff in there too, season three was spotty with really only one or two genuinely great episodes, and season four mostly delivered but there aren't really many standouts in it. Either way, yeah. Some of us who are into the show are creepily obsessed with it or are way too pushy with trying to get people to like it, but that goes for any fandom. And it's far from the only cartoon going with an adult fanbase.

And for me, I'd much rather watch cartoons made for children because of reasons I've already mentioned in this thread. I just don't like those adult shows. They do absolutely nothing for me. Cartoons help me mentally and all that. Isn't that kind of an ambiguous line though? Like, if I'm watching 80s WWF, isn't that a mix of both? What if it's Hulk Hogan's Rock N' Wrestling?

Season 2 Ended TOO strong (if that's possible) and season 3 was gutted to half-the normal length because Hasbro wanted to end it at 65 episodes.......The long and short is that Almost NOBODY I've talked to "Liked" season 3 beyond the fact that in existing it continued the show. The very long wait between seasons 2 & 3, the movie (Equestria Girls), as well as the hiatus between seasons 3 & 4 soured quite a few fans. Season 4 may be the closest we get to a "Return to form" of seasons 1-2 (The "Faust" Seasons), though I'll admit I've re-watched fewer episodes from each successive season, including having simply skipped some episodes entirely.

Exactly. Now, I'll admit, sometimes I'll watch Criminal Minds... but at times it gets way too dark for my tastes and something a lot more lighthearted is the best remedy for that.
