Michael Sam, the first openly gay NFL draftee, may not be appearing on next week’s WWE RAW, even if he wanted to accept the invite, as he’s expected to sign with the Dallas Cowboys this week. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Sam is headed to Dallas for a physical on Wednesday and if all goes well, he’ll be a member of the Cowboy’s practice squad.

If Sam ever wants to have any chance of playing in the league, he won't go. However, given the collusion that has already taken place at the draft and after he was cut, he may never get his fair chance anyway. I would enjoy watching him let it rip.

I understand Vince is trying desperately to stop people from switching to Monday Night Football next week, but that logic seems fundamentally flawed. As a football fan, why would I choose to watch a recently cut footballer talk on a wrestling show when I could be watching an actual game.

Michael Sam is the first openly gay football player drafted to the NFL. He was drafted by the St. Louis Rams but was cut.

Like I said in the Raw thread, there's no way Michael Sam is going to say anything newsworthy even if he shows up. Who the hell would risk their career for Vince?

There is a large portion of people who only care about the story (not even Sam's story, just a story) and the idea of Michael Sam showing up on RAW to do whatever it is Vince wants him to do is far more appealing to them than the actual games.



Plus it would be a Sportscenter/Mainstream moment and he needs new pants at the mere thought of those.

Yes, its a nice bandwagon for Vince to jump on. But I think, as others have said, viewers will be severely disappointed if they are expecting him to cut a scathing promo on the NFL.

I think this time next week the overriding feeling will be "What was the point of that?" (unless of course WWE does something unbelievably crass!)

Yeah, I am not disputing that whatever Sam does will be either a disappointment or a train wreck (probably both), just Vince sees a chance to grab people who were looking at the NFL because of the Sam story and get some mentions on ESPN and other networks. He doesn't care how people feel about, he just wants them to see it.

Nice attempt by Vince at trying to lure away viewers from Monday Night Football. That begins next week as well.

I hope he doesn't. There's no upshot for him. WWE would get publicity, but Sam himself wouldn't benefit at all and would be viewed exactly as the sort of sideshow distraction NFL teams labeled him as; like someone who just wants attention.
