I for one refuse to dismiss this part of the narrative. I think David Schwarz and his exec buddies know more of Russo than he claims and that his retort is just one of those things you say to delegitimize him as a guy with any say on the subject of the TNA contract negotiation. I want to believe Russo still is part of what got into this mess, I mean why would they secretly hire him otherwise?

I loved the gum stuck to the sneaker line, Russo meant something to spike, all of it bad probably, if that wasn't the case, the guy wouldn't had gone out of his way to destroy Russo. I'm happy to know that the report was true, that in fact Spike TV despises Vince Russo.

SPIKE TV VICE PRESIDENT SAYS VINCE RUSSO 'NEVER MEANT ANYTHING' TO NETWORK, 'THINKS MORE OF HIMSELF THAN REALLY EXISTS' by Mike Johnson @ 2:45 PM on 9/9/2014 Not knowing the original source of the comments when they were forwarded to PWInsider.com, I contacted Schwarz this afternoon. He confirmed his comments were legitimate and when asked about Russo, added, "[Vince] Russo means less to Spike than gum that gets stuck on the bottom of a sneaker. What network would want to work with a guy who trashes other networks?"
The comments should also kill the rumors that Russo's admission he was working for TNA led to issues between TNA and Spike once and for all. Can we please get like every HHH shoveling gif in here stat?

TNA wanted X, Spike wanted to pay Y and they couldn't get X and Y any where close to each other. They could have hired him on the sly for a bunch of reasons. Behind the scenes people hated him. Wrestlers hated him. Popcorn vendors hated him, etc. Why advertise bringing a guy back that has basically pissed off 90 percent of your workforce?

Wait so it was Spike who paid Hogan all the money?!
And they say Russo knows nothing about the buisness?!!
Russo helped take TNA to it's highest peak, Hogan took it to its lowest point.
All this revionist history on Russo is getting out of hand. The man knows a lot about wrestling. Everything gives him stick, but under him the WWE was incredible and the only other writers who have come close to him were the guy in charge in 2000 and Heyman's Smackdown.
Yes, he wrote terrible stuff, but there's no way we can point to him and him alone and say "that was Russo's fault." (Unless it involves a pole...) The nadir of teh Attitude era was Mae Young birthing a hand and Russo was way gone by that point!

Look Russo is just the wrestling world's version of Mike Shanahan.
Late 90s he was the man (coach) Writing the best shows with the biggest ratings (coaching the superbowl champs 2 years in a row).
Then it started to get old. People got sick of the same formula, and adapted to it. So they took their business elsewhere with even less success. The rest of the world caught up to their act and it did nothing for no one no more.
Go away for a while and come back recently and try the same tired formula only to find out that the rest of the world has passed them by and they are still stuck with the same ideas and thought processes on what worked in the late 90s. Neither could adapt their styles nor evolve, so instead of realizing the world had passed them buy they just blamed everyone else and burned it all to the ground on the way out.

I still wanna believe, but you give me reason to doubt. The story is just too precious.

TNA's peak was Hogan's arrival. Hogan's debut segment drew nearly 3 million viewers while going head-to-head while Bret's 13-year return to the WWE. I'd also argue TNA in 2012, with Hogan/Bischoff and without Russo, was the best TV they have ever done.

I will say this about Russo, in the late-90's, he knew what society wanted. It was a perfect storm of a lot of things coming together, but Russo's ideas were fresh and got everyone involved. The issue is, the Attitude Era was a fad and a product of its time, so it doesn't age well in hindsight and can't be duplicated. What Russo did in TNA was try to recreate a fad. You can't book like that in 2013/2014 and expect people to think it's cool. Even in 2010 we saw Orlando Jordan squirting white substance on himself, and the lockbox challenge, and lord knows what else. Right out of Russo's playbook, and incredibly outdated.

Only Hulk Hogan himself can build a mountain of bullshit better than Vince Russo. I expect Vince Russo to admit to creating the original concept for Star Wars.

Vince Russo is a conflicted individual. Surely part of him knows his kids are going to google him eventually. It won't be a pretty day in the Russo household.
