Well I've been reading Console Wars and have concluded WCW are basically the Sega to WWF's Nintendo
Nintendo was the industry leader by a long shot, their size allowed them to have a monopoly on retailers blocking Sega from gaining shelf space, and even stopping Wal Mart from stocking them altogether WWF was the industry leader by a long shot, their size allowed them to have a monopoly on Arenas blocking WCW from running MSG and other venues in its stronghold area
Nintendo promoted video games as for kids, Sega knew they couldn't beat them in that demographic so they would skew older by being slightly darker and edgier and eventually the kids would be interested too because it would be seen as cooler WWF promoted wrestling as for kids with larger than life colourful characters, WCW realsied they couldn't beat WWF at that game so they aimed for an older audience with a darker, edgier more realistic product.
What killed Sega's console business wasn't Nintendo, but rather the internal war between Sega of Japan and Sega of America What killed WCW wasnt the WWF, or Bischoff, Or Russo or Nash, it was the internal war between other parts of Turner and it
Sega started taking shots at Nintendo with its marketing WCW spent alot of time taking shots at the WWF and using underhand tactic
The Genesis/ Mega Drive had less colours than the SNES Nitro was broadcast in less colours than Raw

I was a Sega Kid. I liked WCW more. Thanks for ruining my afternoon, ya jerk. And don't you dare compare the Dreamcast to WCW 2000! *runs off crying*

Yes. In the sense that 99% of adults would call any game system Nintendo, even if it wasn't. 99% of non-wrestling fans knew what WWF was but wouldn't have a clue what WCW was. To them all wrestling was WWF just like all video games were Nintendo.

So what was ECW then, the Neo Geo (Samurai Shodown was pretty gory)?

WCW as Sega...I didn't like Sega but loved WCW. But, this is a fair comparison

I don't remember Sega promoting themselves in the late 90s by making all their games star Donkey Kong. (Mario's a vanilla midget and can't work, brother.)

I've said this exact thing before. It's eerie how similar Sega is to WCW. They even had about a 2 year run where they were more popular than Nintendo (like 1992-94) but then things went south and they never recovered. And yes, they did go after their big rival with mean spirited shots, much like WCW did with WWF.

Well, first they love me, and then they don't. Sometimes they do it, and sometimes they won't.

So what was ECW then, the Neo Geo (Samurai Shodown was pretty gory)? No, Neo-Geos were expensive as hell, and ECW was low budget. ECW was a Turbografx-16 with a bootleg copy of Splatterhouse in it.

The Invasion was Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games and was a huge waste of all of the talent involved.
