Hold on.........whoa, so Roma left the WWF in the fall of 1991 and didn't come back to wrestling until mid-1993?! I had always assumed he was WCW bound by the end of '91, which would've made some sense of his Horseman gig. No wonder he failed. He was literally off radars for a year and a half, and in the eyes of fans who knew all this stuff he went from being a low-card heel to a friggin' Horseman between 2 appearances. If anything was needed to inflate his ego (which I take it didn't need to be inflated any more than it already was) it was something like this.

A new rumor I heard was that a lot of guys just ended up turning the spot down for whatever reason and someone in the office thought Roma looked the part so he got it.

I think he tried out a boxing career inbetween leaving WWE and joining WCW.

There's a lengthy list of people who might have worked better than Roma in this role: Pillman, Austin, Eaton, Regal, Chris Adams, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Terry Taylor, Haystacks Calhoun, The French Angel, Frank Gotch, Carl Weathers, Jim Varney, My drunk neighbor from my hometown, the homeless guy that used to have arguments with garbage cans in Downtown Pittsburgh, my cat...anyone but Roma.

I can't help but snicker when i think of his claim that Flair was always jelous of him.

Roma could have worked as a horseman. There were couple of problems with the horsemen at that time: 1- There weren't 4 horsemen nor were they the 4 original, as promised. I think that rubbed the fans the wrong way from the beginning. I think if they were to announce the addition of two new members and introduce Roma, they'd have a better chance at success. 2- Even if they brought in Tully, could they have been as successful as faces as they were as heels? And how much longevity could they have gotten out of it? Tully was semi-retired after leaving the WWF in 89 and not getting resigned by WCW afterward. By the time 1993 rolled around, there was no way Tully was sticking around for long. 3- Roma was a talented performer but he wasn't known to be an elite talent or a blue chipper, and at the time if you were a horseman, you had to be elite or have potential to be great. They could have done something to build him to that point, but they didn't put the effort into doing that, most likely because Flair didn't like him.

Here's an idea... didn't they have Hercules Hernandez at around the same time as Super Invader?
Flair, Arn and Ole walk out. Ole says that he's just there to commemorate a new age of the 4 Horsemen...
Out walks Power & Glory!
Maybe not....

Hercules was working in Japan and Portland at the time. He would probably have been easy enough to bring in, though I don't know that anyone really wanted to see Power and Glory return.
