There are few things I love more than truly intense, emotional wrestling promos--the kind of moments that make you stop whatever you are doing and just fixate on someone pouring their heart out on screen. Nowadays, truly intense promos are rare, but the territory era was full of wrestlers delivering those promos. This style of promo genuinely feels like a thing of the past, which depresses me 10x more than phrases like "sports entertainment" and "WWE Universe" being things.
Here are my favorites that come to mind:
Macho Man sounding like he is having a legit mental breakdown: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfosfT8Ojbg
"YOU PUT ME AGAINST THE WALL, MAN!" The sound of the static just makes this even creepier and powerful.
Roddy Piper smashing a bottle over his head in a feud with the Sheepherders: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHh9Wb--J0M
The promo itself is OK quality--kinda rambly with no killer lines--but the visual of blood streaming down Piper's forehead and him wagging his finger at the camera is just too, too good.
The Jim Ross/Mankind interviews (part 1): www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNB2CuJw6po
I feel that these vignettes MADE Mick Foley in the WWF. Character-wise, this was his Austin 3:16 way more than Mr. Socko's debut or the Hell in the Cell fall.
Ric Flair slaps the shit out of Shawn Michaels for calling him "Old Yeller": www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC3bJ1F-x3Y
This only happened a few years ago, but it was just electric. This is an OK Flair promo at the beginning, but after Shawn stops in his tracks and turns around to insult Flair, Flair really laid into Shawn, and to Shawn's credit, he didn't even flinch and totally sold the stoic expression.
