I've only ever really played one wrestling game, and it was one someone else got me into: SvR 2011. I like that it's more of a hybrid strategy/fighting game than just a straight up get knocked down/jump back up game, because that makes it feel more like I'm really playing the show, if that makes sense. I also love the depth of moves and variations you can make in the Create A Wrestler. But every other WWE game I've tried to play since has either had weird pacing, LESS move options, or strange, hard to learn new controls.
Is SvR 2011 considered the best one, or is that just me? Are there any other good ones?

I for one enjoy WWE 12-14 way more than any SvR. Just way easier to do moves in the newer ones. In SvR I usually just did 3 moves every match because it was all I could figure out really and it just made it boring. Really liking 2K14.

I can't wait to pick up wwe 2k15 for ps4. I think its gonna be great.
I liked SvR 2006 which first introduced the stamina gauge. Loved using Kurt Angle in the game.
HTCP is still one of the best wrestling games I've played. Still one of the only games where the chair doesn't disappear so it just becomes a chair death match.
If WWE 2K15 matches the hype its getting, it may get added to my Mt Rushmore of WWF/E wrestling games : HTCP, WWE No Mercy, and WWF WrestleFest

WWE 2Ks are very glitchy , probably the glitches games I ever played ,
The new 2K15 is pretty much the same as the previous 2Ks besides a few new lighting details , there not very good and get repetitive

When the DLC's included, the WWE '13 roster is pretty astounding, and other than some neat DLC moves in '14 and a bit of a roster update, you're not missing much.

I think 2k14 is great. If you can learn how the CPU plays and get all the settings right (you can adjust how hard it is to reverse things for yourself and the computer in all different scnearios), you can put on a match that feels pretty damn close to the real thing. I do the Universe mode and book it like a real promotion. When you can book things right and build up to a big match and have it deliver in quality, it's very satisfying.

If you're fond of the Brand Extension, then Shut Your Mouth is a great one. No need to unlock anybody in that game, as the excellent roster of 60 wrestlers are all available from the start, though some wrestlers aren't playable from the outset for season mode. You can jump off the SmackDown! fist! THE SMACKDOWN! FIST!!! Anyway, you have a two-year season mode, plenty of match types, extra attires, it's a fun game.
Here Comes The Pain is another great entry. Goldberg is in the game, and he is spot on! Gameplay is great, the two-button reversal system works well. Unlike other wrestling games, HCTP did Hollywood Rock plenty of justice, as his moveset and mannerisms were well-done. The season mode may be one year, but during that year, you can get yourself traded to another brand, ask Bischoff/Stephanie for title shots, etc. First game with the elimination chamber, and it's still pretty good.
SVR 2006 is another good entry in the SmackDown! series. It was the last one that kinda retained the classic SmackDown gameplay without going off in the deep end, in my book. Match pacing is really great, as you can go from a squash to a 20-minute epic. Unlike DOR2, the stamina system is optional, for those that hate stamina systems. The GM mode made its debut in this game. It was the first game to have exhibition title matches since Know Your Role, and I'm baffled as the why they took that away for five years. The PSP version is a fantastic port. The loading times are some of the worst in the series, especially the PSP version.

Personally, I think 2k14's best you're gonna get at the moment. The new one might change that though.
IMO, HCTP, Shut your mouth and No Mercy are heavily viewed through rose tinted goggles. Nowhere near as good as people would have you believe, especially if one's never played them before. I tried playing HCTP a little while ago and it was just awful.

Each one has annoying little things that annoy me.
SVR 2011 had a really limited move library after they took out a majority of the moves from SVR 2010.
In WWE 12 it took forever for the AI to pin you, after finishers they would be stomping you and doing more moves until you were weak enough to pin.
WWE 13 had very annoying AI that would always try and put you through table and barricades in normal matches.
2k14 has the most boring Universe mode, you have to set each show's theme instead of it already being set, Universe generally has less cutscenes and interesting moments than previous years, most times it's just non stop matches you either win or lose.
That being said 2k14 is probably the best of the 360/PS3 games as far as roster, moves, variety and campaign go. I have a feeling the next gen versions of 2k15 will top it though.

Get WWE 2k12 and you have every other game since.
Pick up WWE All Stars used for cheap and relish in how SUPERB that game is instead.

I'd suggest trying Day of Reckoning 2 on the Gamecube, outside of age/roster, it's really not aged at all.

I'd wait for 2k15 to come out in a few weeks if I were you. So far it looks great.

I swear I meant to type something that wasn't "age" at first given I used the word aged later on but... No way to save face, so I'll just say that I still play DoR2 and enjoy it intensely.

2K14 is awful (the only one where I haven't even been bothered to complete the season mode). 13 is meh, 12 is horrendous. SvR11 is really good though. I tried playing HCTP a little while ago and it was just awful. .....I used to respect you, man. OK, I'm joking around, but HCTP is the perfect wrestling game. That's not rose-tinted glasses, either. If they ever released a modern roster update for HCTP, I would pre-order that shit (something I never do because I'm a cheap bastard). HCTP 15, put that shit on Steam or Xbox Live right now!

The last one I bought was Smackdown vs Raw 2007. The graphics seemed to have got worse since Day of Reckoning 2. The gameplay for the game was beyond stale. The videos of all the subsequent games I have seen look essentially based on the same format as SVR 2007. I just was not going to spend any more money on that awful game engine.

WWE 13 has that god damn issue with 2 counts never happening. Totally takes all the immersion away from me. It's probably got the best storymode since the jump from SVR to the 20XX series.

The last one I bought was 2012 and it was a *very* WWE game. Changed up ALL of the controls...and didn't include an instruction booklet. Breaking up a pin shifted from the ultra-intuitive "mash the crap out of the buttons" to this weird "stop the arrow at a certain point on a circle" thing that just completely took me out of the game (and took for-freaking EVER to get used to). And I paid a ****-ton of money to import that as soon as it was released.
Haven't played a WWE game since.
Is All-Stars any good?
