There is a new 30 for 30 short featuring the 1989 Georgetown vs Princeton 1st round game and the impact it had for mid majors and how the tournament was shown on TV. That was a great game. I was pulling for the Tigers. They should look into one on the sudden rise and heartbreaking fall of DePaul basketball. When I was a kid, DePaul was #1 and had a heckuva team. Ray Meyer, God bless that man, was coach. Mark Aguirre was their star. (Became a good pro, too.) Think it was 1980 or 81, they were top seed, so they got a bye. (Was 48 teams then; top 4 got a bye into the second round.) They lost to St. Joseph's. Think they were the first #1 to get bumped that early. Aside from a couple of more NCAA and NIT appearances under dorky son Joey, the team is largely forgotten about unless an unusually large crowd at US Cellular Field needs a cheap place to park. Even the sports station (which covers the Blue Demons) had to tweak their Northwestern ads as Chicago's BIG TEN station, as not to offend DePaul (or Illinois).

The upcoming ESPN 30 for 30 documentary Down in the Valley won’t be airing next Tuesday night. ESPN has pulled the film, which is centered around the battle to keep the Sacramento Kings from moving out of town, until further notice because of a number of allegations made towards Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson

There are a myriad of allegations that have been ongoing for years now, so producing what I can only assume was going to be a fluffy puff piece about Kevin Johnson should have been something they knew was a bad idea. EDIT - For what it's worth, Tuesday's premiere 30 for 30, "Trojan War", is getting some pretty rough advanced reviews. It almost makes you wonder how positive Bill Simmons' influence was on 30 for 30, since this will be the first collection of documentaries since the show's creator left the Worldwide Leader.

I was at the 30 for 30 premiere of Down on the Valley last night and thus isn't a puff piece designed to stroke KJ's ego. This is a story that needs to be told. All they will have to do is edit a bit of the documentary in the beginning to cut KJ's bio. Overall I enjoyed the film, but it does a terrible job of truly capturing the pain we felt as a city during the relocation drama and it did a bad job of showing just how important the arena is for the city. It has already been a huge economic driver for our region and something we can be proud of.

I'm really hoping "Trojan War" is more like "Pony Excess" - an honest look at a college football powerhouse and all that went on behind the scenes that ultimately led to its downfall, and less like "The U" and "The U Part II" - a rose-colored look at how awesome they were and how all the haters were out to get them.

Heard that they skip over a lot of stuff You can already tell from the four-minute introduction that it's going to be more along the lines of "The U". Zero accountability and a celebration of how cool and popular they were. It already feels like a documentary that the University of Southern California would produce, rather than the Worldwide Leader in Sports.

Yeah you can tell once they get to the Heisman ceremony they'll say that Leinart and Bush were by far better than Vince Young. Just ignoring that Vince Young even before the Rose Bowl should have won the thing. Anyone who watched football that season, even us Oklahoma fans, knew Vince Young was a god playing among insects.

So they just completely gloss over Troy Polamalu.
Show a highlight of the game against Cal in 2003, but don't mention they lost. Also don't mention they got screwed out of the BCS National Championship Game.

My biggest issue so far might be the fact that they just refer to the 2003 USC team as national champions and make zero reference to the fact that LSU won the BCS National Championship Game, thus leading to a split national title. It would've been a nice bit of discussion to address the controversy of having a split national champion, considering just how much of a divisive talking point it was in January 2004.

Oh how I hated that game. Nobody was stopping that 2004 USC team, and it didn't matter who they faced they were steamrolling them.

That was basically all of my concerns validated. It made 'The U' seem hard-hitting and honest, because at least in that documentary, Michael Irvin conceded that the players should have shouldered a little more responsibility. There was none of that in 'Trojan War'.
I also can't understand why Reggie Bush wouldn't want to be a part of it. They weren't going to grill him with questions or press him for honesty, but rather they were there to pat him on the back, tell him how incredible he was, and not hold him accountable for anything.
A very, very weak start to a season that doesn't appear to have many upcoming bright spots. Next week's 30 for 30 on John DuPont and the Schultz brothers could be interesting but it's coming off the heels of 'Foxcatcher', so I really wonder if we'll learn anything new.

I wanted more from this 30 for 30. Like it was ok for what it was, but they could've dug a little deeper.

I wanted more from this 30 for 30. Like it was ok for what it was, but they could've dug a little deeper. No doubt, they really should have gotten into that 2005 season and how ESPN was hyping that USC team as the greatest ever, while the season was going on. They could have gotten into that while the 2005 offense was excellent, the defense was far from it. They mentioned Reggie Bush's game against Fresno State, but they could have also mentioned just how f***ing insane that game was. Seriously that might have been the best regular season game that season. They could have talked about how in 2003 Cal beat them, and that was their only loss, and the following year both teams were undefeated going into that game. There was so damn much they didn't cover.

Apparently, we're gonna be getting a "Mike & the Mad Dog" 30 for 30 in the near future. That should be fun

'Trojan War' really stunk. I don't think I learned anything from it.
