This seems like one of those forgotten popular movies of the 90's...it came out the year after Batman and seemed to be trying to recapture the popularity of that movie with its over the top characters...unique comic look and set design...plus a Danny Elfman score.
I remember it doing well but not as well as the studio hoped....it was definitely popular amongst kids as I remember Dick Tracy t-shirts watches, games and other merchandise everywhere. I watched it again recently and really enjoyed it...I don't know about you but I miss the early superhero movies that were straight off the comic pages in look and style. No need to explain characters attire or appearance...it is what it is...a fun comic book movie!
What are your thoughts on the movie?

Loved that movie as a kid. Pruneface was my WWF champ a bunch, perfect size to battle those old WWF and WCW figures.

It was as good as any movie about Dick Tracy could have been. It's not saying a lot but that was probably Madonna's best performance film wise.

My dad, who has since passed away, took me to watch it as a kid. Buuuuuuut yeah the film has not aged well.

I love it. To me, it's aged just fine. It's nothing great plot-wise, but it was never meant to be; it's a fun movie that emulates the strip perfectly.
I honestly wish that it had done better/made more of a foothold with the public. I understand why it didn't, but I would've liked to have re-visited that world at some point.
Just a great, fun lil movie.

I said it before but The Blank terrified me when I was a kid. I always covered my eyes when the character is introduced and he's just staring at the camera. And that voice--I would not want to hear it in a dark alley.
I collected all the Dick Tracy toys but for some reason, I never did find The Blank. So with my parents' help, I wrote a letter to Playmates Toys asking about where I could find it. To my great surprise, they wrote me back! The original plan was to release the figure sometime after the film's release so as not to spoil the ending. But the company later decided that The Blank wasn't popular enough to warrant an action figure, so they nixed it.
Until I saw it again when I was older, I didn't realize just how many big-name stars were in the film.

I love it. The production design is amazing. It just looks great. It has its issues, but it holds up pretty well to me.

I actually think its aged fine too...it still looks as it was meant too....the matte painting colourful backgrounds still look good to me. I actually really enjoyed Warren Beaty as Dick Tracy too...Im not sure if he was the same in the comics but he really came across as someone you wanted to save the day. Al Pacino was also awesome as Big Boy....youcan tell like Nicholson in Batman...he was having fun playing this over the top cartoonish villain.
It is a shame it didn't get any sequels...apparently it was over rights to the film and not over how much it made or anything.

Love it now, thought it was whatever as a kid.Lips,Mumbles and Steve The Tramp bothered the f*** out of me.As someone touched upon above,it's crazy to see the amount of impressive actors in it.I'm crossing my fingers for a good bluray release with lots special features sometime soon.Dat "What Can You Lose?" duet is awesome.

One of my absolute favourite movies... I must have re-enacted that car shootout finale with my GI Joes a million times.

Loved it as a kid. I remember Warren Beatty was on Larry King and said it was a nice wholesome family movie and that nobody is killed in it.
Saw it two days later and like 20 people die in the first half hour.

I wish Rocketeer would've succeeded more too. That's a fun little movie as well.
Today's comic movies are undoubtedly better by leaps and bounds, but there is something to be said for the smaller, fun little ones of yesteryear.

The scene with Mumbles finally deciding to speak clearly always gets me. I mean, you knew it was coming, but everything about the scene was just so calm and simple that it hit harder than it should've.

I usually watch it in a triple feature with The Rocketeer & Roger Rabbit The Rocketeer is a great movie to pair it with neither movie is a classics but both of them have great action and really vivid images and both have held up really well.

More than anything I really dig the color scheme, but it's decent and I really liked it as a kid. I never cared for the Rocketeer though, but his suit was cool I guess.

I loved this movie as a kid, and I think it was the first movie I ever saw twice in a movie theatre in fact. The story and acting are just right for the type of movie it was trying to be. Also, it was one of the first movies where I took notice of cinematography and production design, as it was a very nice movie to look at.
I still love it to this day, and I keep hoping that we'll get a proper special edition Blu-Ray of it, but I know that's probably not happening at this point.

Fun movie.
I'll say this...that was one of the best action figure releases ever.
Normally, they'll have like 1 or 2 villains and then have 4 or 5 variants of the main hero released. This line of figures had just about every character to account for, which was mostly villains.
Kids are likely to "play" Dick Tracy as nothing more than a cop who goes around killing bad guys, and to me that's exactly why I loved these. No one gives a shit about the kid or the love interest. They rather fight it out with Itchy, Pruneface or the Tramp.
