Let's say of the post-1987 modern era, has the Summerslam fallout leading into the September pay-per-view ever been really gripping week-to-week television? Like, isn't this typically a weaker month? Can you remember ever going "Wow, what a great September that time was?!"

No, but this has been the worst September yet. By far.

September is always the worst month period. It gets cold outside, the PPV sucks, the days get shorter, the movies suck, back to school, etc

1999 gave us WWF champion Vince McMahon in September. Make of it what you will.
I remember 1997 and 1998 Septembers being good. 1997 brought the birth of the original DX and 1998 was Taker's heel turn/alignment with Kane/feud with both Vince and Austin somehow

I liked enough about 1997, 1998, and 2002, though 2001 is probably one of the better booked September months that I can recall what with pushing RVD and the Austin/Angle feud. EDIT: To add, wake me up when September ends. I'm curious, what stood out about '98 and '02 to you?

I actually like the cold... Because sometimes after RAW I want to go out and freeze to death. Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn you should quit watching if it makes you that stressed out. The commitment of staying up 2am-5am with false hope that "Man tonight is the night. Something special is gonna happen!" only to realize, it's actually sh*t, it just pisses me off. It's not stress, it's pure anger and hatred to all the suits behind the product.

September, Autumn leaves, Reigns rises, rain seeps down, Cena is a heel, it's not dark enough at 5:40am for dog walkers to be indoors whilst I run along the prom, Dean Ambrose is not featured on my HD screen, it's too warm to wear a thick jacket but too cool to wear a light piece, Rusev is still Russian.
Truly this September is the Three Sisters of the 21st century.

You know what would make September cool? Fall Brawl: the War Games.

September 97 was pretty great. Taker was after Shawn following SummerSlam where HBK accidentally cost him the title against Bret. Shawn responded by forming DX. Meanwhile, Austin was coming off of his injury to Owen and began stunning everyone - Ross, Slaughter, Lawler, then Vince himself at MSG causing him to get arrested. That same night at MSG, Cactus Jack made his first WWF appearance and had a great falls count anywhere match with HHH. You also had The Hart Foundation and The Nation going strong. That's one of the only examples I can think of though. September is typically a down month.

September 2000 was pretty great IIRC. Angle & HHH's feud was heating up, Austin came back & didn't Rock-Benoit have a terrific PPV match?

WWE during the fall in general sucks. TLC is where the turnaround begins imo.
January-April: Royal Rumble build, and then the Road to Mania, usually compelling television April-June: Mania fallout Okay television, but usually has great in ring quality June-August: Summer, if there's a hot summer angle, this can be incredibly entertaining time of year September-November: YAWN. lets put out boring stuff, while we figure out our mania plans. December- The closure of the boring

Sept 2009 was really fun.
Punk vs Taker Jeri-Show & MVP/MarkHenry were in full force. Legacy vs DX Christian vs Regal

While '98 and '02 had some bright spots, I think they were probably the weakest months of their respective year.
