Around the waist? Over the shoulder?
Personally, I kinda like when the belt gets the rough treatment... Hogan air guitaring with it.. Austin n rock holdin it in their hand while dragging it...

It pretty much depends on the performer. I'm a traditionalist who likes the belt strapped around your waist, but I also really liked the way Austin and Rock carried the title because it fit them perfectly.

Worn around the waist for the ring, held over the shoulder for backstage interviews. The belt should be constantly visible to emphasize its importance.

Sitting on it, riding it down the ramp like a sled.

As was said, it depends on the performer. I think Austin dragging it to the ring worked just as well as MNM using them as crotch guards as well as Flair wearing it to the ring.
One underrated thing I miss though is someone cutting a promo, typically in a suit and having it folded in one arm.

These are my feelings on the subject as well. I prefer guys wear it around their waist but do what works best for your character. It would just look silly if Austin wore his belt like any other dude.

I don't think I've seen it held that way (folded, in one arm or in the hand) since the 1980s. I think the Winged Eagle belt was impractical to hold that way and the practice just fell out of favour all over. The shoulder drape seems to have replaced the handhold since then.

I was thinking back to the days of Flair, Rhodes and Race mainly though Punk and Heyman did hold the spinner in that manner at times. I can see with the edges how the winged eagle could be that way. Guess that is one reason I was always more of a fan of the WCW/NWA belts, they always seemed to have a good look and could usually be folded which I love.

Something worth baring in mind is that Austin was so incredibly over that it really did not matter what he did with the belt. For someone in Austin's league, holding the top title was actually secondary-he was the most over guy in the fed even when he wasn't champion. He could have dropped his drawers and peed on the belt and it would not have detracted any from him. But for other wrestlers for whom holding the belt is a major component, the way said belt is handled can be very important. A great example is how Superstar Billy Graham was always clutching at the belt like he needed it to survive; that played to his character and emphasized how important being champion was to him.

Personally, I'd love to see a big dude win two belts and strap them onto one another around his waist. It would call to attention both his gigantic belly and the fact that he holds multiple titles right now. Immediately looking at him, you know he's one to fear.

Nigel Mcguinness, he wore it like DDP at first, like backwards but instead of turning it around he left it there it was him telling the fans to literally kiss his ass.

On that note, Dolph Ziggler shaking his ass with the WHC on his backside was great. JBL would say it's disrespectful, but I like how the belt's frontside stayed forward through Dolph's entrance.

The various ways Dean Ambrose did. I always liked when it was worn like a bandolier

Around the waist. Make it seem like it's the most important thing you own. And it makes the wrestler look more like a legit champion. Over the shoulder is fine as well. But dragging it around like it's a piece of trash? Just cheapens it, really.
