The first test footage has been revealed for Genndy Tartakovsky's take on the iconic Sailor Man.

So they finally got rid of Popeye's pipe, huh? Not complaining, just kinda surprised it took them this long to phase that out.

But without a pipe how is he supposed to get those tumors on his arms?

Popeye is my all time favorite carton character. I have a Bluto action figure standing alongside a twelve inch Popeye plush on my computer desk right now (and hell, I'm probably gonna be him for Halloween). I'm not a hundred percent sold on this, but I'm curious now.

It's always frustrating to see these rich 2D sketches and then generic bubbly 3D animation developed from that.

I almost wish for a hard R Popeye. I don't care if it does terrible because it's target audience wasn't tapped. I just want Popeye and Bluto to just sadistically beat the shit out of one another and for Popeye to ingest a full can of spinach immediately through his pipe.
I don't even know why the pipe was an issue, I hardly remember actually seeing any smoke come out of it.

Someone has to say it: why were they always fighting over THAT??? Desperation. Popeye and Bluto were sailors who spent a long time at sea. They were willing to getbwith pretty much any young female. That coupled with the fact that Popeye and Bluto weren't exactly GQ material themselves, and you have your reason. EDIT: And perhaps Olive was amazing in the sack. She was flexible.

I couldn't tell you the origins of it really, except that I was really, really young when I first started liking him, so it may be as simple as it being one of the first cartoons I was ever exposed to. Plus, in a way he's kinda a superhero. He's regular sailor man until he eats his spinach, then he's strong to the finish. Haha. Plus, if you watch those old shorts, a lot of what he mutters to himself is just hilarious.
