Sounders fan since I got into MLS, but the fact that my place of birth (Orlando) is getting promoted to the big time next season is making me feel a bit confused.

They should bring back the Tampa Bay Mutiny. It's too bad they wouldn't be able to bring back 'El Pibe' Valderrama though.

I support Toronto FC (local team) and the Seattle Sounders (mainly due to Clint Dempsey).

There are a lot of markets competing for expansion franchises. They should just go all the way and do promotion and relegation. More teams, but not a completely overcrowded field at the top level.

I've always had a lax view on MLS. The only games I really watched are the Cascadia Cup teams (Vancouver, Seattle and Portland), as being on the east coast, the games are on in that "hey, nothing else is on, I'll watch this" time slot for me. I was one of those fair-weather World Cup fans this year, and have been following the American Outlaws on twitter and getting more into the national team. Having a sister-in-law who is a soccer nut helps.
Being a Yankees fan, I'll put my support behind NYCFC

I'm torn, I'm a Yankees fan so NYCFC makes sense, however I hate Man City with a passion. I think I will stick with Red Bulls at least as long as they have the best footballer my country has ever produced playing for them (Tim Cahill).

Tampa Bay has proven since the Mutiny fiasco that they can support soccer, since they have the NASL Rowdies & an USL Pro club. Anyway, my team was originally the San Jose Earthquakes, but they moved to Houston, so I because a Dynamo fan. Haven't followed them as much this season since I've been supporting the Indy Eleven, wno like I said, may become a MLS team in a few years. Hey, the team stinks due to injuries and a lack of depth, yet we've sold out every single home match.

Closest thing I have to a local team is Chicago Fire. Wonder how good they are. They aren't terrible, they aren't great. The majority of their leads end up as ties late in the game.

Come up with actual nicknames. Real and FC don't count as name. Especially since "Real" is only really used in a certain Southern European monarchy because, you know, they're a monarchy. (I mean, the term is also used by a couple of less famous teams in Portugal, but that's because they were formed at a time when we were a monarchy too). The US are not a monarchy, so they should use an appropriate term then (Parliamentar Salt Lake seems good to me).

Not MLS but last night Sacramento Republic FC came back from being down 2-0 to beat the LA Galaxy II 3-2 and advanced to the USL Pro championship game.
We are hosting the championship game next week and this city is ecstatic!

Not that I'm a huge MLS follower, but I'm pretty impressed with the progression of the league. I thought they were destined to be dead in the water after the 98 World Cup (which was perhaps the most awful World Cup the US has ever been in).
That being said, I still think Real Salt Lake is the dumbest name ever, and not just because I'm a semi Rapids fan.

I'm of the mind that the recent resurgence the US Men's Team has enjoyed will be a great benefit to MLS.

The names generally suck. I know it's a tough balance to pick a name that's traditional to football and one that's not too "American" in the sense of being a name like an NFL, NBA etc...team would pick, but the names could be much better.
I also favour a promotion/relegation system. A second division would keep things interesting.

If promotion/relegation is a thing, then MLS really should overexpand the smaller soccer leagues and get to the same point minor league baseball has gotten to for utter overkill with soccer teams beforehand (where pretty much every state has at least one minor league team, and any relatively good-sized city has a team). It's closer to how it would be in Europe with relegation-heavy leagues, and it's likely the best chance of soccer getting major headway in the US if it happens (simple theory: If you're a kid growing up in, say, Montana- with no major league teams around or even remotely close by, and not even a particularly good college team to get behind- and suddenly Helena FC has had a few good years and is suddenly in MLS...in theory, you'd suddenly decide you want to be a soccer player. Keep repeating that way for smaller cities/large towns throughout the US...suddenly, soccer is big in America.)
