In 2007, Vengeance became "Vengeance: A Night of Champions" - a night devoted to showcasing title matches. Coming fresh out of having separate PPV's for their three brands, it was a way to focus on the nine titles that existed between their three brands, thus giving every champion and their challenger a PPV match.
Seven years later, with only five titles to showcase, Night of Champions is basically like every other PPV, hosting title and non-title matches. In which case, why call it "Night of Champions" anymore?

The whole concept of monthly paper views inevitably sets itself for the running of courses. Sad but true.

It was never a good idea since most of the titles are worthless anyway

The whole concept of monthly paper views inevitably sets itself for the running of courses. Sad but true. Monthly PPVs/special events will always happen, especially with the Network. Monthly PPVs is one of the appeals of having the Network. WWE should not go a month now without a PPV and still expect the full 9.99 from you. Probably why WrestleMania has returned to March this year. But yeah, the pretty sweet PPV set aside, Night of Champions has had it's day I think. It worked in 2007 with 9 titles, and 2008-9 with 8 titles. I always remember NOC 2010 had six title matches, then Survivor Series also had it.

At least it's the one show we're guaranteed a US title match.

Only time I liked it was when King Booker won the 3 way dance where his title was voted to be on the line.

Maybe if champions didn't look so weak from losing non title matches every week it might seem like something special.

At least it's the one show we're guaranteed a US title match. Pretty much the only thing that distinguishes it from the rest of the PPVs. They could replace it with...King of the Ring.

The non-title matches could be number one contenders match but that's too much work to book.

They could add NXT championship matches, 5 WWE Titles + 3 NXT's = 8 matches on the card.

Night Of Champions actually debuted in 2001 as the last episode of Nitro.

It was all good until Night of Champions 2010 when it came to the non title natch of CM Punk vs Big Show. They had Ted DiBiase vs Morrison as the dark match when Ted still had the Million Dollar Championship. They could have used that match since ALL belts are supposed to be defended but nope we had to sit through a Big Show match. Since 2010 each NOC PPV has had a non-title match.

Yes not enough titles now they need to replace it with Fatal Four Way. There are not nearly enough fatal four ways and a whole PPV of them would be great.

With only five titles on the main roster, I'd say make Wrestlemania the event where every title is defended.

What was the name of the battle royal from the Jesse Ventura hosted episode of Raw from 2009? The one with all the superstars who've never gotten a world title shot competed in? The one that Sheamus got his title shot in.
Has that ever happened again since? Might be a cool thing to add to NoC. I thought it was a pretty cool concept.

Having former ECW Champions in the battle royal bothered me lol, one occasion of WWE picking and choosing when it would say it was a top title

All gimmick PPVs aside from the Rumble need to be replaced by non-gimmick PPVs

All gimmick PPVs aside from the Rumble need to be replaced by non-gimmick PPVs Elimination Chamber has a nice concept in that it could change the WrestleMania main event. The fact that it usually doesn't is the only thing holding that back.
