This was mentioned in Bret Hart's Attire thread, actually, but anyhow. Hart, and IIRC Bob Holly too, during his "Spark Plugg" days, used to wear a pair of trunks over their tights for whatever reason. Anyone knows why?

Honestly a lot of the long tight wrestlers did it but wasn't noticeable because it matched. Watch the ending of the 96 Royal Rumble for what I mean when Shawn Michaels did his "striptease" he clearly removed it. Not sure the reason but I think Holds things more securely is the right answer.

Yeah, most of the guys who wear long tights have the covering. I'd wager the material is the thinnest and easiest to rip or wear out in that area so they have wear the trunks to have some extra protection.
