I really like Kevin Hart's standup, but I have yet to enjoy a single movie he's been in.
Are there any other comedians who you think don't translate well between stage and screen?

Eddie Griffin is kind of an example of this, though I haven't seen enough of his movies to really say. "Foolish" was bad except for scenes when his character is doing his stand-up but the story sucked. "Redline" was just garbage even though his character wasn't one of the leads. I remember enjoying "The New Guy" when I was younger but I haven't seen it in years and I don't know if it will hold up. I remember even enjoying "Double Take" a long time ago, but it probably won't hold up these days.
I heard that "Undercover Brother" was actually funny, so I might watch it. I can say that I kind of enjoyed "Blast" with him, even though I still have a hard time taking to him as an action hero in that movie.

Billy Connolly has been very hit and miss with his films. He was fantastic in Mrs. Brown and IMO should have been Oscar nominated but nearly all his comedy films have missed the target (I love Still Crazy but as he's part of an ensemble, I don't count it for the purpose of this thread).

It's not perfect, but it takes the absurd premise pretty much everywhere one would want to go with it. I think it's worth checking out.

Honestly I'd arguably say Richard Pryor is good and great films are the exceptions I think are out numbered by his lesser films.

I like John Leguizamo's stand-up, but I haven't enjoyed any of his movies I've seen other than Romeo + Juliet.

A bit different but Stephen Lynch...Charismatic and witty as hell with his stand up and improve but I saw him in the Wedding Singer musical and it was dreadful...

Dane Cook. Hugely popular as a comedian, terrible in movies.
An argument could be made, easily, that the stand-up was terrible as well, but the guy did have a hell of an audience for a while.

Speaking of Dogma, outside that and Bill and Ted, Carlin's film work wasn't much to write home about either, especially considering how groundbreaking he was as a stand-up. Its also odd for me to see Jim Gaffigan in acting roles. He does fine, but its hard for me to separate him from his stand-up persona.

I like Carlin well enough as Mr. Conductor, but he wasn't exactly there to be funny, so that's a bad example maybe.

Carlin was really good in Jersey Girl actually. I just watched Jersey Girl yesterday, and I totally agree. Kevin Smith seems to really "get" George Carlin and wrote good characters for him.

I love him in Boondock Saints cuz his role is just as gonzo as the rest of those movies. I finally saw Boondock last year. And do not get what all the hype was. It felt like a watered down rehash of all the great early 90s Hong Kong action films.

I like it anyway. I can see why people that didn't see the 90s Hong Kong stuff would like it. Also so the horrible sequel.
