It was okay. I liked Gordon and Cobblepot a lot, need to see more of Alfred. It was also refreshing to hear "Falcone" properly pronounced after the butchering the Nolan films did on it.

really disappointed, i thought it was super ordinary and a continuity nightmare. I'm not sure how it can be a "continuity nightmare" when it exists soley in its own new canon

How can I watch this, I missed the first episode and forgot to DVR it? It's on Hulu.com. You might need to either link your cable company account or use hulu plus though as I do know some Fox shows are on a few week delay to non cable/ Hulu plus subscribers.

The only thing 'wrong' with this show is their version of Alfred. Alfred is not Michael Caine. So having Pertwee play Michael Caine playing Alfred is a mistake. The idea that Alfred would talk with a cockney accent, swear and even say 'innit' really broke the scenes he was in for me and took me out of the show

Had a friend pointing out the nervous comedian. "That's totally the Joker."
My counterpoint: The person writing headlines for Gotham's newspaper is the Joker. "Hero Cops Slay Wayne's Killer" That's some morbid way of putting stuff. They're hero cops...but they slayed someone. Slay is a very negative murder synonym. To include the two is almost like...a bad joke.

I even pointed that about the comedian, and newspaper writers usually go for sensational headlines so that wouldn't surprise me but like someone said maybe we don't even find out who the real Joker is because he has so many origin stories.

If the Joker shows up it will be completely random and we don't know who it is would be my guess. Does the Joker even exist without Batman?

I don't see in any way how he could...but it is a "new timeline" "new canon" type situation. I'd say he'd be a running joke, reference, nod, nose tap by constantly hinting how "Gee, good thing we saved this guy...wait...is he gonna be the Joker?!" for different people. It's like Killing Kenny...but not.

Depends on what you mean, because the Joker was the Red Hood first, and depending on the origin Batman created the Joker. They could always have the Red Hood show up

They could always have the Red Hood show up I think that having a series of people adopt the Red Hood persona would be both a good thing and confound things even more. As far as continuity goes, I don't mind if they turn things on their head. Smallville went pretty well and they took established continuity as mere suggestions at times. One thing that confuses me because I don't obsess over these things. This is the second incarnation where I noticed that Jim's wife/fiance is named Barbara. I thought Barbara Gordon was Batgirl/Oracle, not her mom.

His first wife is also named Barbara. Not sure why the writers at the time decided on that. Super confusing.

In the comics (at least pre-Nu52, don't know about the current continuity) Jim Gordon had two wives. The first was named Barbara, she was Gordon's wife when he first moved to Gotham and, depending on continuity, was either the mother or adopted mother of the younger Barbara who would become Batgirl/Oracle. She was also the mother Gordon's son, James Jr. They would eventually divorce. Gordon's second wife, the one people who've been reading the comics for the last thirty years would be more familiar with, was Sarah Essen, a police detective who Gordon had an affair with while still married to Barbara. She was killed during the No Man's Land story which was written... fifteen years ago?! Damn, I'm old. So basically Barbara and her Mom had the same name.

I think the show runners have said they plan to do Easter eggs for all his possible origins, so we never know
