Did the ref really botch that 3 count between Hogan n Andre and they just added it to the story or was it supposed to be part of the story to begin with?

It seemed more like a botch.

A botch which they smoothly co-opted into a storyline.

Nothing botched about it. Hogan was supposed to squirm out and Andre and Heenan were supposed to have a legit beef about a missed 3 count that cost them the title. This was to protect Andre who was going to go down cleanly.

I never saw it as a botch. This and the headbutt to the ring post protected Andre from looking like Vader '95 when Hogan pinned him.

Brother, when that 900 pound Giant fell on me, I collapsed a lung and almost forgot to kick out, dude!

Yeah, I always saw it as someone being clever. Not only does it give them something extra in the angle going forward, it gives an early "holy shit" moment at a time when something like that could still be done.

Andre legit died when Hogan tried to lift him that first time. It's a real tribute to Hogan's skill that he pulled a good match out of a corpse. Andre came back to life briefly at the end to hand over his World Heavyweight title to the new champion. He passed away shortly after.

I don't get how it could be a botch as it was a count of two and nine-tenths but it wasn't a three. I guess it shows the lack of faith in wrestlers whereby we all think their ability to successfully execute an agonisingly close count must have been a "botch"

I've seen the match minus the commentary on the "History Of WWE" 50th anniversary DVD, and it did sound like a three-count but Hogan kicked out right when the ref's hand landed the third time. Whether it was a botch or not, well, one has to ask Hogan or Heenan. Or maybe Ventura.

I thought he meant because if anyone knows what it's like to be under a wrestler for an inappropriate time, it's Steph!

Nothing botched about it. The funniest thing to me is how Andre argues with the ref while holding up just two fingers.

It was a two count because that idiot Marella can't even count to 3.
