Any thoughts on this in retrospect? I personally feel like stanza didn't use Foley the best they could. His ring days were long over, but as a pop culture figure he had definite value. He really should have been used as a brand ambassador, a company spokesman to raise their profile and garner press. While he was in TNA he put in appearances on Celebrity Wife Swap, the Daily Show, and he appeared at the Stewart/Colbert rally in Washington DC. TNA made no mention of any of it on their programming. They should have been milking it for all it was worth.

He didn't stink up the joint in any of his matches, his match with Rocky Balboa was a 5 star classic.

I enjoyed it. His title run was entertaining, and he had a few good matches.

Remember that time Cactus Jack cut a promo on Mick Foley? That was awesome.

He was okay up until the Bischoff/Hogan regime came in. From that point on his stuff there was beyond horrible. It seemed like TNA devoted copious amounts of TV time to his idiotic feud with Bischoff that went nowhere and led to no match of any sort. In fact I think this junk actively hurt TNA in terms of attracting viewers since someone I knew tried out TNA in early 2010 and came back to me saying "Eh, I gave TNA a chance the other night but all I saw was some boring and stupid stuff with Eric Bischoff and Mick Foley so I turned it off."

It was ridiculous and over the top, and I'm still sad that Jarrett got sent home during that period because I was really interested in the inevitable Foley vs. Jarrett PPV match due to the build.

Except his program with sting, everything was meh...he was supposed to help Alex Shelley go to the next level, but Shelley got major heat and was almost fired after he went against the script when he was wearing the turkey suit, he was supposed to act pissed off and said that the stipulation was stupid, but instead Shelley was actually having fun wearing the turkey suit and being snarky, Jarrett blew a gasket, Mick had to calm him down so he wouldn't fire Alex. After that the plans for a Shelley Vs Mick angle were scrapped.

Everything he did during that title reign was entertaining - the guy was on fire and you could tell he enjoyed the freedom because a lot of what we got was classic Foley/Cactus Jack.
delusional Foley was hilariously brilliant, taking the title with him everywhere he went; all of those skits were gold and still some of the best stuff TNA has ever put on TV. I also enjoyed the ultimate sacrifice match where he spent the majority of it doing commentary. His cage match with Sting was also surprisingly good considering their limitations.
The best match of his whole run though was a damn car wreck of a match with Flair - good god that was an awesome match. It had no right to be as good as it was but credit to both for putting on something so brutal and violent at their age and conditions.

Remember that time Cactus Jack cut a promo on Mick Foley? That was awesome. That was pretty much the highlight of his run. Especially when he mocked the classic wrestling trope of having theme music interrupt a promo by using it as a distraction, and then beating Sting's ass while Shark Boy and Curry Man's music played.

His role with the company became redundant after Hogan arrived.
The thing I'll always remember most was that weird feud he and Jarrett had with Bischoff right after Bischoff arrived. It led to Bischoff booking a match on Impact between Foley and Jarrett where Bischoff would fire the loser. The thing is, storyline wise, both Foley and Jarrett were part owners of the company, while Bischoff was little more then Hogan's lackey (he didn't even have a kayfabe title). How did he have the authority to fire anybody, let alone those two?

Are we all forgetting that he also had Abyss as an apprentice for a while?

I'm an unabashed Foley mark so I'll happily state that I loved all of Foley's pre-Bischoff run. His promos were gold, his matches were better than they had a right to be, his skits when he was champion were amazing ('so it was an autograph and a naked polaroid, right?') and him interviewing himself? Glorious. Plus that Flair match which really should've been a show opener on a PPV instead of rushed through in ten minutes on one episode of Impact.

Loved his run! I didn't watch when Hogan joined, so no comment there, but prior to that he was gold.
I loved the feud with Sting where Foley went power-crazy "play Sharkboy's theme! Play Curryman!" that was an icredible promo. The whole Sting feud was great, I loved how Jarrett was very closing to convincing Sting to leave the Main Event Mafia until Foley buggered that up with his manic ego.
Then he got the belt we had some hilarious stuff. Foley: "I'm not going to defend my belt again till Slamiversary!" Borash: "What? But that's 4 months away!?!!" Foley: "No, no, no. 16 months. I meant next year's Slamiversary!"
The King of the Mountain match was great too.

Just went back to rewatch the Foley Interviews Cactus Jack promo, it really makes me miss Mick Foley. People always talk about Rock and Flair as far as great promos but god DAMN Foley is amazing. I really loved this feud.

How did he have the authority to fire anybody, let alone those two? Made no sense then and the same amount now with Angle bossing around Dixie and MVP. Yeah, he has a title but they own the company. Ugh. As for Foley's run, I liked his stuff as an authority figure but hated him becoming the focal point and champ.

It was great up until Hogan / Bischoff for sure, but you have to believe Foley regrets all those TNA matches now. Many were pretty damn physical, he didn't need to be doing that. TNA is where I really noticed he started to struggle to walk.
