Tell me this isn't the legit costume I had the same reaction, particularly when people were talking about it being disturbing. I hope it plays better on film, cuz I just started laughing when I first saw the still.

Basically what I've heard is that Justin Long pulls it off to where it's a bit disturbing at first, but the other thing I've heard is that the costume is never hidden so it just looks dumber and dumber.

I felt like the scenes leading up the full reveal as various modifications were made and the context of the reveal helped make it work.

I really liked it. I'm really loving the post-Red State Kevin Smith. I loved all those Askewniverse movie and Zack and Miri, and find Jersey Girl to be a fine film for what it is. But I love that Kevin is just throwing us shit out of left field. I really liked the Guy LaPointe character. I haven't seen many Johnny Depp movies (I think that it's pretty much out there that he plays LaPointe, right? Every reviewer seems to have spoiled it in their reviews. Thus missing the point of an uncredited role), but my oversimplified of his work is always playing either Captain Jack Sparrow or some vulnerable Gothy emo character (basically anything he's done with Tim Burton). So it was a refreshing to see him play a character that's so unsexy. I loved when Wallace is explaining to Howard what exactly a podcast is, the film cuts to Wallace and his co-host Teddy acting like jackasses. The scene at customs stole the whole f***ing movie for me. I enjoyed my time in the theater, the sfx makeup was really cool. Was surprised that Kevin Smith's daughter not only wasn't a detriment but was probably the best part. Not really a movie, imo. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}I hated the infidelity subplot, especially so that the cheater we're supposed to sympathize with is the only one we see being unfaithful, and that the two people betraying Justin Long were doing so at the only moment they might have been able to help him. When they don't even really do anything with it, it only really serves to add unnecessary conflict that goes unaddressed/unresolved afterward and left me not liking the only people in the movie I think I was supposed to see as pure as Ricky Steamboat. That and other bullshit took away from what would have been say a solid Tales from the Darkside episode. I have no problem with protagonists as being less than likeable. Does every protagonist have to be a "shades of grey" anti-hero? No, but being a bit of a douche isn't a deal breaker with me. Plus this does seem like this follows in the horror movie tradition of horrible things happening to horrible people. Even if said horrible people are our entry point into the story.

I have no problem with unlikeable protagonists, but I kind of lost interest when I found Osment/Rodriguez to be thoroughly unlikeable while I felt the film was presenting them (especially her) as shiny haloed angels of goodness. I think the movie would benefit if that tangent were absent. I have no problem with Justin Long's character being an asshole, though I think it might have worked better had we seen more of that rather than just hear about it for the most part.

He was a douche but you root for him to escape his situation. That's good writing.
Like Human Centipede ... Christ I hated that movie, but there was an element of genius in it... When the middle girl was trying to escape and that prick was hunting her down... Most of ,me wanted her to escape and the other 0.8% (okay probably more) wanted to see what it would look like.
I'm a sick Ennis.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like an absolute nightmare of a film. I do not mean that in a good way. The teaser they did had a hook, but then the other shoe drops and WTF? SeriouslyKevin? A f*?&ing walrus?

Part of me thinks this type of movie works the best inside the creator's own head. Sure, this would be an absolutely horrific thing having done to you.... but, it comes off more comedic and sadistic to a viewing audience. You don't really get the real horror of it, because you always want to see the end result.. untainted, without any concessions made. In the creator's mind, we're supposed to feel like the person having this done to them, to feel their terror, pain and helplessness... but we just plain don't. It's why Human Centipede was one of those movies where you saw it as an oddity, not as the beginning of this new amazing franchise or genre in horror.
I dunno, that's just my problem with it. The idea, itself, is awesomely creepy... but it seems like it's a case where no matter how well it's done, what you devise for it in your own head will always make what's on screen seem a little unrewarding.

A f*?&ing walrus? It was based on a news story from Canada about a guy who had a room to rent and the only catch was you had to wear a walrus costume and act like one so many hours of the day to stay there. Smith discussed it on Smodcast and wanted to make a movie out of it.

Seriously this is one of the dumbest things ever put to film. At least sharnado knew it wasn't serious. Smith lept onto the pretentious train ans rode that thing all the way to the station

Smith lept onto the pretentious train ans rode that thing all the way to the station ...No he didn't. In fact he did the opposite. He literally claims he made the film to put a man in a walrus suit because he thought the story was weird.

Smith lept onto the pretentious train ans rode that thing all the way to the station Actually, Kev knew from the getgo that this was a dumb idea that he wanted to carry through. He's openly talked about understanding why people don't like the movie, how the whole thing hinged on people wanting to see if he actually went "full walrus", he locked down distribution deals that made sure the film wouldn't lose money because he wanted to commit his ridiculous idea to film. He knew this idea was f***ing crazy, and that most people wouldn't care for it. I mean, ya, the trailer does give a sense that this whole movie is serious, but right from day one this has been a very tongue in cheek production. Nothing about this movie can truly be taken seriously.
