Saturday morning TV in the late 80's early 90's here in Quebec was pretty much the same as you guys... we had the GI Joe and TMNT and Transformers and the Power Rangers... wrestling... Kidd Video, I saw that clip earlier on, the theme song is forever etched in my mind, it was great! And then, a little girl was killed by another kid in a particularly horrific way, the media blamed violence on TV, politicians said GREAT scapgoat, let's not blame the parents, let's blame video games, heavy metal and saturday morning shows, and all these shows were off the air within weeks. To be replaced by Japanese anime like... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Hutch_the_Honeybeeen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobody%27s_Boy:_Remien.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candy_Candyen.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Tom_Sawyer_(anime)And that other one with the f***ing frog. ... all of which were depression-inducing and psychologically traumatizing. Let me quote Wiki on the first one... "The original show (1971) is notable for its frequently sad and cruel scripts.[3] In many episodes, Hutch would befriend another insect, only to see his new friend die a violent and painful death. In one, he befriended a female honey bee who lost her brothers and sisters to a hornet army." Yeah, f*** Optimus Prime kicking Decepticon ass, it's way better to see an innocent orphan honeybee who is looking for his mom never finding her, crying his eyes out because he can't find her and because the friends he keeps making keep dying horrible horrible deaths. Tom Sawyer wasn't that bad, I liked it. But Hutchi and Remi f***ing ruined a generation's childhood.

Remi was actually something I remembered from our SatAMs...for a slightly interesting reason. As it was dubbed into Spanish and seen on SatAMs on our now-Univision station. Along with La Princesa Caballera, and a number of dubs of current shows. Think Voltron was another.
The Tom Sawyer anime was seen throughout the week on HBO too.

Teacher's Pet. It was on OSM for about a year in 2000. Then it was on again and off again for another year and disappeared completly by early 2002. That show had some awesome art (50-early 60s inspired art) and had some relatively famous people as VOs. Nathan Lane was the voice of the dog, Debra Jo Rupp was the mother, Jerry Stiller had a recurring voice over roll, etc. What I liked the most was the writing. It was a really good show. It's a shame anyone hardly remembers it. If I remember correctly, it became a movie (that failed miserably) and at one point during its run there was some sort of theme song done by Christy Carlson-Romano (Disney's normal MO pre-Hannah Montana, anyway). i always hated the show that dog was a smug asshole

in the UK in the 80's/early 90's Channel 4 had some really good stuff on, we had Once upon a time...life, which told you about the body and how it worked) Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors The Bluffers Heathcliffe and Friends (No Cadillac for us) Bobobobs Inspector Gadget Bill and Teds Ecellent Adventures Back to the Future
but if we want proper obscure cartoons (from the UK anyway) Henry's Cat James the Cat Telebugs Pigeon Street Superted Hattytown Tales Dogtanian Jimbo & Mysterious Cities of Gold

Thank you for this! I've been trying to remember the name of this show for a long time. It's probably not as obscure as I think it is, but does anyone else remember the Teen Wolf cartoon? My friends always look at me like I'm insane when I mention it, but I know for a fact it existed. The intro was probably the best thing out of the show. I've tried to find reasonably priced DVD's or VHS copies of the show for the years, but now luck. I've also tried to find it 'elsewhere', but no luck there either.

How about Saturday Supercade I loved this series. Sad that they dropped Pitfall after the first season, even if they attempted to replace it with Space Ace. And Q*bert was an absolute trip. Dragon's Lair had its own cartoon, too - they had a lot of "What would YOU do" stuff before commercial, which was a nice shout-out to the game itself.

For me in the mid-late 80s, both Saturday and Sunday were about morning cartoons. Some of the more obscure ones (off the top of my head):
Saturday: Galaxy High; Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors; Centurions; Teen Wolf (don't know if anyone else remembers the cartoon); Wuzzles; Kidd Video; Disney's Adventures of the Gummy Bears; Little Clowns of Happy Town; My Pet Monster; and of course Storybreak.
Sunday, as part of the USA Cartoon Express marathon before All Star Wrestling: Pac-Man; The Shirt Tails; Valley of the Dinosaurs; Monchichis; Hong Kong Phooey; Jabber Jaw; Devlin
On Saturdays, there were plans to do a Garbage Pail Kids cartoon, even airing a few teaser commercials. But the show was yanked at the last minute. I remember because I woke up early in anticipation, only to be let down with another airing of Story Break or something.

We've gone three pages and no mention of THIS?
Such a fun little show. AND educational.
See, TV? You can have educational without cramming it down our throats.

I think it was called ProStars or something... and they referred to the lady as "Mom". NBC carried it.

I have no idea why this was being shown in the UK

I got lucky and got the complete run of Dragon's Lair at a con a few years back. Also got a few episodes of Saturday Supercade.
