I may have been in the minority, but I really felt TNA gut check was a good idea. It's never a bad idea to bring in some fresh, young talent to freshen up your roster and give them a chance on TV. However, the whole thing f***ing sucked because the people they choose were hot garbage. The only decent guy, Joey Ryan, wasn't even voted in while green-as-grass guys like Alex Silva were - it ruined any potential the idea actually had. The problem, in part, was that the structure of the concept meant they were pretty much obligated to hire some of the garbage talents, and that beyond that, many times they'd hire the people who lost, giving absolutely no kayfabe justification for their decision on why the "loser" was better for the company. Even in the kayfabe, it was a trainwreck of an idea. It's fine to have tryouts of sorts, and I get that TNA doesn't have an iota of the resources WWE does to have dedicated tryouts, dark matches, all that, but they still tried to run before they could walk with it, and ended up tripping. Evan Markopoulos was pretty good, especially considering how young he was. I'm almost surprised they didn't at least give him a shot. Though judging from past experience with Gut Check winners, it's probably the best for his future career that they didn't.

Well its not like they were very good wrestlers themselves so I wouldnt think they would be great trainers.

The concept was fine, but for the longest time the issue was that they were only using Team 3D or OVW students who were nowhere near ready to be put on tv. I know a lot of indy wrestlers were excited about Gutcheck when it first started up, but after they learned more about it they wanted nothing to do with it.

I have been going to some FL indy shows and there is a guy named Sean Swagg (terrible name) who graduated from there that makes the rounds, I feel like he carries himself like a star. He is the brother of former TB Buccaneer and KC Chief Sabby Pincineli.

Well its not like they were very good wrestlers themselves so I wouldnt think they would be great trainers. I'm not so sure that's a fair statement. If you took Lance Storm students after a year or so on the indies and threw them on national tv without a stint in developmental, you'd most likely get similar results.

Team 3D academy is the anti Vern Gagne wrestling camp. Verne produced Steamboat, Flair, Iron Sheik, amongsts others. 3D gave us the guys the op mentioned lol.

Verne's camps produced their share of meathead lunks. Just their wrestling careers didn't last that long. Problem with the folks from Team 3D school is that they are still emerald green when they get put on the national spotlight. They aren't put in positions to succeed. Especially when TNA's agents who aren't working with them to improve their game.

They don't really get much of a chance because they're thrust out there with utterly shithouse agents telling them what to do.

Leva Bates really is the diamond in the rough. She's not what I'd say an amazing wrestler, but she's done a great job standing out from the rest with her superb cosplay gimmick and she's a good worker.

With Ryan actually being the best of the lot and having the most fan support and they still said no while saying yes to people who not only lost their matches, but sucked (Lapa, Silva). Saying no to decent talent that the fans actually liked was a slap in the face to the whole concept.
