The idea of Abyss having a trademark weapon doesn't bug me at all, its a longtime wrestling gimmick and would help sell the idea of him as an ultra-violent psychotic. But couldn't they have possibly found something that might have some actual in-ring application and that you wouldn't get 10-to-life for if you actually hit someone with it?

Lol I kinda thought that Janice was hot, even kinda liked her laugh.
Yeah Abyss's weapon to me never made sense, like it's too hokey. Nash was supposed to return to tna and form the main event mafia, but when Crimson impaled abyss with Janice, he said that the segment was so bad that he went to Johnny Ace and begged him to appear in the royal rumble. Also I think it derailed rvd's push when Abyss let him in a pool of his own blood, it just looked so cheap. It was also near the descent of abyss as a worker, like he started to rely on the weapon instead of wrestling, Joseph Park arrived soon.

Honestly, I think it was when he started using Janice that it was all downhill for Abyss. How do you top using a f***ing 2x4 with nails in it?

Sting had a baseball bat. Sandman had a kendo stick. Nigel McGuinness had an iron. Catcus Jack had a baseball bat covered with barbed wire. So the idea of wrestler having a trademark weapon is nothing new, and it can contribute to their ring character. The problem with Janice is that you honestly can't use it in the ring-the damn thing would kill someone if you smacked them with it, and even if you are trying not to it could still cause serious disfigurement or injury. If they wanted Abyss to have a trademark weapon, they may as well have just stuck with the chains he used to drag around during his James Mitchell phase; that you could get multiple uses out of like him choking people with it or wrapping his first with it, and it is far less likely to cause unintended damage.

It was stupid. What was wrong with the chain? Or at a push the bag of thumbtacks?

Have they ever shown him using Janice on screen? Several times. Hell, most recently he was in a feud with Bram where Bram used it on him 4 or 5 times.

Yeah, Jim Duggan once said that Bruiser Brody taught him that if you ever brought a weapon to the ring it becomes part of your move set, like either you win the match or you lose because of it. Kevin Sullivan also mentioned that it gives you a unique look like when he used the spike no one in the locker room brought another one. To me another problem with Janice was that they never sold the weapon like it was a matter or life and death, like security guards or policemen never stopped him from using it. Or he was never suspended after he attacked somebody.

I remember Bryan Alvarez summed it up best: "It's stupid, why don't you just bring a gun to the ring..."
Yeah, Janice sucks bum.

what was that weapon black rain used to have? It was really weird, like a pipe carrying a spike, or something, Dustin doesn't have many nice things to say about his Black Reign era lol.

I remember Bryan Alvarez summed it up best: "It's stupid, why don't you just bring a gun to the ring..." Yeah, Janice sucks bum. It actually looks awesome as a wrestling weapon-but you honestly can't use it in the ring. Wrestling weapons are kind of weird that way; they need to be something that could plausibly do some real damage if you were to use them on someone in a real fight, but that won't inflict serious injuries when used in a wrestling ring, even if an accident happens. We've accidents happen that were pretty freaking ugly, like when Tommy Dreamer got cracked open by Sandman's cane, but all he needed was some stitches and time to heal. With Janice, that is not a possibility-you can't use it in the ring AT ALL Without inflicting serious injuries and if, god forbid, anything went wrong, someone could plausibly die. That's why it just doesn't work as a wrestling weapon.

Janice is such a Russo thing. I hate that weapon, it's not a 'safe' weapon to use in a match. Remember Samoa Joe's weapon? I bet Russo came up with that too. Samoa Joe doesn't need a weapon, he IS the weapon!

It should have been a shotgun wrapped in barbed wire but then he never tried to shoot anyone, just hit them with it.

So, if Janice is Abyss's girlfriend, would that make the thumbtacks in his bag their kids?

If he's going to have a weapon that he can't use, just bring a bag of anthrax spores.
