Or maybe people just liked Triple H and wanted to see him return and not some crackpot brainwashing theory? What crazy world do you live in where you read the crap I typed and thought that I could be in the slightest bit serious. Welp, there's the egg on my face. The scary thing is, a lot of this stuff is usually brought up as actual arguments by HHHaters to try and demonize everything he's done, so it was pretty believable!

As a kid I hated HHH because he was a very good heel. Yet, I always wanted to cheer for the guy because he was super awesome.
The revisionism of "hhh wasnt a big star in the attitude era" is as bad as "the invasion of nitro was a turning point in the attitude ra"

Perhaps the better question is why wouldn't he get a huge pop? He beats women up with chairs while they protect their boyfriends. That should have at least made a few people stop and think maybe he wasn't a good person. Not go "Well on one hand he put the Rock on the shelf and he brutalised a woman but on the other hand he hurt his knee so I think he's learned his lesson". When someone does a good job of playing a villain, one of two things happen: You really want to see the character get commupance or you develop respect and admiration for the performer who did a good job. In Triple H's case, it was the latter. Fans at the time believed he really was that damn good and were just happy to see a major player return.

Yeah I don't disagree. I was merely waxing hypothetical as to a realistic and plausible answer to your question, tis all.

I hated him so much as a kid but those video packages showing his rehab and a little retrospective of him as the Game made me a fan. The moment was awesome and no revisionist bullshit can change it.

Psh! The arena was obviously filled to the brim with WWE employees and not actual smart fans who can see HHH for who he truly is. (which is the Devil btw)
Shame on HHH and WWE for selling out an arena to just so they could fill it with plants!

I'm aware that none of my posts make sense, contribute anything to discussion or even stay on the original topic and as such I wouldn't expect anyone to waste their time sifting through all my bullshit to try and find a point.

Yeah, that's right.

Triple H was awesome at the time. He was by far my favorite wrestler. A year prior to his return, people were chomping at the bit to see him turn face. The night he joined Austin everyone thought he was gonna attack him instead and the place exploded. It was a great swerve and it showed how much people wanted Triple H to turn face.
It wasn't until later the HHHate started.

Because he had been out for over a year and had overcome incredible adversity?

1) It was New York. 2) It was HHH after 8-9 months away. 3) The WWE and its fanbase had just suffered through the entire WCW Invasion.

3) The WWE and its fanbase had just suffered through the entire WCW Invasion. Surprised it took three pages for someone to bring this up, and frankly, I believe it to be a huge part of the reason. Not only because it was a huge return after so many months, but that it was also, in a way, things getting back to normal. The Invasion crap was dying off, Austin was a babyface again and HHH was returning. And HHH was completely untainted by said Invasion, have never appeared during a lick of it.

Madison Carter just sits there with all the answers, waiting for someone else to provide them and then swoops down to confirm. We'll never learn otherwise.

lol yeah big props to Madison for speaking the truth though
indeed the Invasion played a part in this. HHH returning kinda made everyone think that good times were ahead, similar to the 4 years before he left due to injury...boy were we wrong *PShayes*

After all that build and fanfare, it never made any sense to me that WWE dropped his mega-push and top face act so quickly post-Mania. He had all this momentum, and they just had him drop the belt to Hogan like 30 days later and then had him toil in midcard feuds until he turned heel.

2000-2002 was pretty much a smark favourite, then he took the title from Jericho and it went downhill from there.

Because his 2000 was electric and from the time he left as a top guy, so much had changed in the WWF.
