In Soviet Russia, wrestlers watch fans.

Rusev is Zoidberg in this, so maybe Russia doesn't have that much respect for its Bulgarian boy.

I'm Russian-American, so I can't comment on how it goes over in Russia. However, I personally find it hilarious and not offensive. In fact the only thing about it I find offensive is from an American standpoint. The WWE thinks that we are so brainless we will automatically cheer whoever is waving around an American flag this month. And sadly it works to a degree. Thats my beef with it. Big E and Mark Henry are now suddenly huge patriots and freedom lovers. It wouldve made sense for Swagger to come into a feud with Rusev after Rusev beat Henry, as it establishes Swagger as a huge deal to beat Rusev. But no, they murdered Swagger for nothing.

Rusev comes across unintentionally sympathetic IMO. He generally wins his matches fairly, and Lana's comments contain some element of truth that many Americans may grudgingly agree with. Meanwhile the pro-USA side has a tone of contrivance to it and rings hollow.

Because for the most part Rusev seems like he doesn't give two shits about American/Russian politics and only wants to crush.

I've kinda gotten that vibe too... that Rusev only pawn in game of life is there to fight people and Lana's the one with an axe to grind.

I don't know, when I look at Rusev, I can't think of anything offensive against Russia.
The guy is a legitimate monster, who doesnt need to cheat to win. He is proving that Russian Atlethes are superior to the ones from the United States. Besides that, Russians love to show how competitive they are, and could find funny about all the bragging that their guys could do against americans.
The only things that were terrible were the "special events" promo when the plane crashed and obviously the dragging of the russian flag. I guess that people take the Putin as something way over the top.
Honestly, if I were northamerican I will be way more offended

Russian Commentary script
"Oh look, here comes Rusev's long-standing friend The Big Show, he's obviously come out to celebrate just how great Russia is!"
-Big Show tears down flag-
"Unbelievable ladies and gentlemen, our American friend is so in awe of our wonderful country that he is taking the flag down from the rafters, so that he can take it home and drape it over his front lawn (in a thoroughly respectful manner)!!!!!, what a great day for both our countries, Russia in particular"

Let's say I found a Russian TV channel one day. And on this obscure channel they have some European guy acting as a stupid (but strong) American for the Russian guys to ridicule and mock. I would probably laugh at how dumb and ridiculous this show is.

The whole act is so cartoonish I don't think anybody can take it seriously. Vince is not the most subtle guy.

It's an absurdly cartoonish gimmick portrayed by a Bulgarian and an American who speaks Russian with a Lithuanian accent, they probably just have a good chuckle and/or roll their eyes. Though it's inspired by the current political climate, it's ultimately as harmless, well-worn and wilfully outdated as British people being portrayed as wearing top hats, having terrible teeth and saying 'jolly good show, old bean.'

Anything involving Rusev/Lana is far too tame to apologize about.

But no, they murdered Swagger for nothin The thing is, any American wrestler could go down there and say "I love my country and I don't like you..." and there you go. You don't need to previously be a super huge patriot or anything. Henry for me works because of his Olympic history. Not that it makes you an automatic super patriot or anything, but, it makes sense that you'd have a sense of national pride. Plus he is a big powerhouse, Rusev is a big powerhouse, so he is a natural opponent at some point. Same with Show, in that regard.

They probably wonder why nobody has bothered to cover up the rather prominent Bulgaria tattoo he has on one of his upper arms.
