There is no way everyone doesn't completely lose their minds and panic over this. It'll be all you see on the news for weeks, sadly.

Last week I panicked when the news reported Ebola might of been in my local hospital. But keep in mind my dad was having surgery in that exact same hospital that exact day it was reported. But yeah this could be scary and unlike swine flu a real disease to be scared of.

But yeah this could be scary and unlike swine flu a real disease to be scared of. I can completely understand being jarred by the thoughts of this virus being in the same hospital you're in. And yes, it's definitely a very deadly virus. Having said that, the facilities, technology, hospitals, health care, etc. are much better here than in Africa where the virus is killing thousands. There are numerous scientists who have said that an outbreak of that magnitude here has an extremely low chance of occurring. The sad thing about this is the amount of misinformation that will spread due to bullshit stories on social media outlets (mostly Facebook). For example, I've already seen more than one person post that the virus is airborne. Not true. Is it something to be concerned over? Sure. But full-blown panic isn't warranted in the least. But, like I said, you can bet your ass the media will make sure everyone is in a panic so they'll tune in/click a link to find out what's going to happen next.

I'm just waiting on the over reaction from the idiots in my family. I've already overheard people talking about readying shelters and stocking up on supplies just in case. Honestly I'd feel much safer in Dallas than in the far outskirts like I am.

As has been said, we have much better resources to handle sick patients here. And if they die, we know how to deal with the bodies in a way that makes sure that fluids that may be leftover do not risk infecting the living. Which is something that's exacerbating the crisis in Africa.
Obviously I'm not saying that we should not be mindful of this. Of course we should be mindful. What we can't do is allow ourselves to be enveloped by hysteria. That won't help anything and those feelings would be completely unfounded.

If for some horrible reason Ebola does spread around the United States, the mortality rate will be significantly lower then it is in Africa right now due to all the medical know how and advantages.
People just need to keep things in perspective and not panic. I can see the mass hysteria and stress causing a lot more harm to people's lives then the actual disease will, when it comes to a majority of the population. Plus I am pretty sure right now when it comes to patients treated here in the USA, it's 3-0. No deaths yet.

Could you guys imagine if a case of The Plague got reported? Already happenedSleep well. Actually, not quite, that's the pneumonic plague, not the bubonic plague. The pneumonic plague is worse, because it's airborn and spreads from person to person, rather than from insect to person. The US gets about seven plague cases a year. It's treatable now, as long as it's caught early.

Some headlines today make it seem more troubling, and seem to show a lack of........common sense? "CDC: It's 'Not Necessary' to Release Ebola Patient's Flight Information" "US Ebola patient didn't give travel history, hospital didn't ask" .......

Not sure why you guys are so worried about it since the Bird Flu killed us all like 4 times in the last decade.

So is the case confirmed or are they still waiting for test results? At first the articles says it's confirmed but then the rest suggests that the patient is still being tested.
