During the show, I thought Johnny spamming Puma with his finishers to take the 4-1 lead was nothing short of brilliance. I asked why no one else has ever done anything like that in Iron Man matches before?
Start to finish, this was brilliantly booked, in my opinion. The feud between Alberto and Johnny was maintained. Johnny kept his heat and managed to look cool (asking the band to play, finisher spam), and Prince Puma showed that in the world of Lucha underground where everybody is superhuman, he's just a little bit better and DESERVES that title with no help from Konnan.

So, would this be the first time a wrestling show is eligible for an emmy? I would to see LU win and see how the wwe universe reacts(I'm sure the company itself will be silent and pretend LU doesn't exist).

You just know Kevin Dunn is currently grinding his teeth down to normal size right now. Awesome for Lucha Underground.

Pretty sure WWE was up for one for Tribute to the Troops one year and even sent out a screener before not making the final cut.

I haven't seen it yet, but Dave Meltzer wasn't a fan of it, saying they didn't suit the style, and he didn't like El Patron's involvement, as it felt too heelish. The only thing that I was against with Patron's involvement is that he should have been on the top with the band and shoved Mundo through the tables, thus turning the tide of the match in Puma's favor. It would have made more sense in the grand scheme of things, instead of "he stops Mundo from trying to run out the clock".

Also, while not really wrestling, Total Divas is up for consideration in the "Outstanding Unstructured Reality Program" category.

Ya, Patron coming out of nowhere to put smack-talking Mundo through the tables would have been awesome. Then a fresh Puma spams pins like Mundo did earlier and then it's tied for a great showdown where for several minutes they work for one last pin. I'd have finished with Puma getting some poetic justice and using the ropes for the pin just like Mundo did at the start.

I was considering making a seperate thread for this but will put it in here instead. With all this Emmy discussion/massive buzz over the show and promotion/reigniting lucha style in America and introducing new talents to the American audience etc. Is Lucha Underground what WSX wanted to be, in a way?
- It has a strong USP that sets it apart from any other promotion in America today
- Heavily dramatized and concentrated on characters. All within one fictional setting, the Temple.
- Live music and other bells and whistles used to add to shows overall character. WSX heavy rock/punk/metal whatever you wanted to call it as an example
- The settings and the props within the settings play a part in the matches, maybe becoming a character in its own respect due to how polished the production and design of the show(s) is.
etc
What do you guys think?

My issue with WSX was that MTV didn't really know how to promote a wrestling show look at what happened with their attempt at a Lucha show.

I got to give LU a lot of credit when it comes to booking and re-inventing specialty matches that are the norm. Not a classic like Grave Consequences but a banger nevertheless.

Still no word on if it will be renewed, and talents are getting antsy over the lack of information over whether or not they are continuing it reports say.
I'm not sure why El Rey hasn't renewed this yet, LU has surpassed all of their expectations that they had for it, and given the fact that they are possibly up for an Emmy you'd think they'd be thrilled and want to renew it.

Money. Like I said before, El Rey cancelled Matador over money. That show was El Rey's franchise show yet production costs sealed that show's fate. El Rey don't have big money. Univision, which is backing the network, isn't pumping dough into the coffers to keep Lucha Underground financially feasible.

It'd be a miscarriage of justice if LU gets cancelled because they get come to an agreement, it and NJPW on AXS are finally shows I can watch without it feeling like a chore halfway through.

Since Lucha Underground is ran like a tv show instead of a wrestling promotion, they have no means of making money to keep the company afloat. They need a certain amount of cash to run the show and pay the staff. People were looking at Univision taking the show and moving to a larger base but Univision had no incentive to have a show that does less ratings than a 3AM informercial.
