At first I thought they did a terrible job of getting the owner over as a heel in the first segment, but I guess that was to set up the last segment.
Why would you you go with such a slow first match on a show called Lucha Underground?
Looking at that roster they could have come up with 10000001 better matches than Chavo V Blue Demon as the first ever Lucha underground match.
I'm liking the pretapes being produced like it was a drama show, much better than the invisible camera nonsense.
The Strikercam was f***ing awful, I really liked the birds eye view one though. Striker and Vampiro were shitty, they sounded like the announcers from a video game or something.
And I'm fed up of companies pointing out or alluding to how they are different than the WWE, just get on with it.
the first episode seemed a bit of a weak introduction to the product but showed alot of potential.

^ They did show it at least for me. I finished watching it maybe a couple of hours ago and nothing struck me as "we're going to keep telling people this is different."
^ ^ I thought the first match sold the product as what it is -- grittier than what I expected, not a bunch of flippy little boys doing flippy little things. If it had been AAA-type wild hyenas running around doing crazy things at 1,000 mph then I would have tuned out immediately.
The no-mat, concrete floor around the ring adds to the "temple" and "underground" aspect. I like that guys are selling that their offense takes a toll, too -- much more realistic that many moves (even common ones we see in matches everywhere) should also impact the guy who's on offense. Nice touch.
First episode established the concept, some characters and planted seeds for storylines. Very good start.

I was speaking in general.
I haven't seen it because I don't get El Rey.

I was speaking in general. I haven't seen it because I don't get El Rey. They do it a couple times. I personally agree. Show us that you're an alternative rather than tell us, "See what you're missing when you watch just WWE, you moron?" Striker actually says at the beginning of the show that we won't see "5-year olds bouncing around wearing brightly colored t-shirts here!" or something like that, talking about the grittiness of the venue and show. That was one of those "Ugh...really?!" moments there.

I forgot about Striker yelling "USE THE INTERNET!" at the audience, that damn near killed me.

Enjoyed Matt Striker and Vampiro commentary. They could have done with sounding a little more amped at points but otherwise they did a fine job.
Slick production values and different take on promos. Loved the serious drama feeling.
The gritty arena, it really sold me on the fact that this was underground wrestling and a wrestling temple.
Sexy Star as a whole; looked great, wrestled great and even though the match was short I enjoyed her more than any other mainstream diva/knockout.
That main event, both guys came off great and put in amazing showings. Really helped solidify Prince Puma as one to watch.
Meh Strikercam.
Blue Demon Jr. vs Chavo as the first Lucha Underground match.
Dario Cueto not quite being put over as heely enough, which was a problem with this episode in general. Not enough people to really hate.
Dislike Chavo Guerrero stinking up television wrestling products still. Whatever IT that guy had, he lost it for me long ago. Give me something truly fresh.
Sexy Star losing so quickly with no apparent rhyme or reason after hyping her up as the gender destroying, barrier breaking womens superstar.
Fat thugs post-main event beat down. Other than Big Ryck, the other guys looked like they could be taken down with a swift gust of wind. I know one of them was Ricky Reyes but man he just seemed to be lacking something and didn't look in the best of shape. They need a tougher looking group if these are EL JEFE's henchmen. -------------------------
Still overall a solid show, different and I'm going to be back next week. Hopefully they keep me hooked.

Are you all able to watch this in the US? I'm pretty sure I don't have the El Ray channel or whatever it is. Where are you guys watching this? El Ray is an English cable network. So that's how we watched it. www.elreynetwork.com/Click "Watch Now", enter your zip, and you will find what channel it is in your area.

I like that match. Matt Striker is great on commentary, Vampiro, not so much. Although neither of them really sold the post match brawl all that well. I don't know what they're trying to accomplish with those extended LetsPlay style shots on the commentary team either. Also, Johnny Mundo's finisher is still awful. But I like the presentation, seems really fresh.

For a guy who's been away from the ring for so long, I was pleasantly surprised with Johnny Mundo -- especially the way he played the "big guy" role and adjusted his style to use a lot of power moves instead of trying to match Puma's highspot style.
And just damn, those abs.

For a guy who's been away from the ring for so long, I was pleasantly surprised with Johnny Mundo That was a work. He's been wrestling all over the indie scene. They presented it as him not having a match since he left WWE. Likes: -The main event was better than any Raw/Smackdown/Impact match this year. -Matt Striker on play-by-play -The Sexy Star vignette -The way the show is taped they can easily edit out any botches. That's a huge plus when dealing with the lucha style. (They just need to learn to stop cutting to the commentators as a way to mask their cuts.) Okay: -Vampiro on color -The overhead shot. It was used but sparingly and never took away from the action. -The actual Blue Demon Jr vs Chavo match. They could have done better but it wasn't "horrible". -The Konnan/Owner vignettes. I'm not a huge fan, but I see where they're coming from and they're different. -The post-main beat down. I didn't "hate" it but it did push their storyline and didn't detract from the awesome main event. Dislikes: -The dirty floor. I understand the aesthetic, but these guys are getting dirt and concrete dust all over their backs and boots and spreading it throughout the ring. The mat looked like a used dustmop. A staph infection isn't going to make Blue Demon move any faster. -Sexy Star jobbing to Matt Cross off a backbreaker in a match that lasted 1/10th as long as her "I'm a strong woman who can take on any man" vignette. -That f***ing commentator camera. Once before and once after matches would be plenty, MAYBE once in the middle of a match. They were using it as a crutch to make their cuts to the matches. Overall, the first half was a solid C-, the second half with that main event though is an A and absolutely worth watching. If they keep giving us matches like that almost everything else could be forgiven.

Likes: -The main event was better than any Raw/Smackdown/Impact match this year. I can't speak for TNA but the fact that is could apply to WWE should be talked about more. After an excellent 2013, this year WWE's TV matches have been so homogenized and just plain overdone that almost no match is memorable. I just watched for Mundo vs Prince Puma and it didn't disappoint. I wish the roster had more big names to it but I figure that will happen if the show is a success. For example, I'd have liked to see Carlito in Konnan's role or something like it. My only exposure to Konnan is that he makes homophobic and sexist comments regularly so it's whatever. I really liked the presentation though. It's the biggest draw.

He says stupid things, but also champions Latino wresters in America.

I don't know what to think of this after the first episode. I mean, it's good, but it's not lucha. Actual lucha moves at a completely different way than american pro wrestling and I wanted that. I wanted an entirely different experience, and instead I got a west coast indy.

I wanted an entirely different experience, and instead I got a west coast indy. I'll give you that, but it's a sleekly produced, nationally broadcast west-coast indie. I'm hoping that people who watch Mundo vs Puma and love what they see might look into other stuff like BOLA...

I caught a glimpse of it just now. I decided to DVR the first two episodes. I am now wondering if this show is like "Wrestling Society X" with it being treated like a TV show as opposed to an actual wrestling show. It looks as if the show is going to go by season as opposed to going year-around like Raw or Smackdown.

The plan is 39 episodes in Season 1, then a 13 week summer break.
Heard good things about Episode 2, but an odd twist involving Chavo.
