Just watched it. It was a series of three in-studio vignettes with the second one being an interview with Mundo/Melissa/Cuerno/Rey. While Rey seemed a bit nervous, everyone did good and each expressed what makes it stand-out (High-flying action, Cuerno explaining the meaning behind the masks, first LA-based national promotion in a long time, Rey calling it 'the new era of wrestling'). The hosts were alright; inoffensive and played along with everything. Overall, good coverage and more than I thought it was gonna be (It was, at least, as much time as the WWE interviews) EDIT: ESPN link to the interview

And all the way from fire island with his praise. Kevin Nash @realkevinnash Sweet segment on west coast ESPN for @luchaelrey boys played it right.

Now I'm just hoping they filmed a This Is Sportscenter segment while they were there...

So stoked. I hope LU gets some real financial backing, because they excel at everything the WWE used to, but with a much better in-ring product. Good luck on that. LU already is funded for season 3 but Unimas still hasn't committed to airing this season of LU yet with days to go and Netflix is airing Dusk to Dawn season 2 but no Lucha Underground 1 or 2. So if we want LU to be around for a long time, they are going to have to clear more platforms and bring in more money. They could make a little extra if they'd drop those Season One DVDs lol.

Or do house shows in the US. There are plenty of ways they can make money off LU but for whatever reasons, they aren't doing it. I get it's a telenovela with wrestling but they aren't trying hard to cash in on their fandom like other shows would.

I just got a message from Lucha Underground's Twitter that I won their poster giveaway contest. You had to tweet the reason you love LU and my tweet was chosen. I won a free signed LU poster. The contest mentions posters of Mundo, Puma and Pentagon Jr. I'm hoping for the Pentagon one.
This was the tweet.

On tap for tonight's Season 2 debut.
Six man Tag: Famous B, Drago, and Bengala vs The Crew and Cage
Gift of The Gods Championship: King Cuerno vs Fenix
Triple Threat No.1 Contenders match.
As for LU, remember they have limited funds. I think they got like twenty million on the budget and it costs like over 300 grand to do an episode. They got the deal with Prowrestlingtees which is good, but it'll be some time before they can do things like House Shows.

Well its listed on there at 411mania, plus its a semi important match as its the one where {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Cage turns face

There are plenty of wrestling promotions willing to sponsor a US LU/AAA show like how New Japan had ROH and Jersey All Pro help them with their US shows. They aren't selling enough shirts to fund season 4. They got to expanded their money horizons if they want to survive.

They may do something like that, the may have shows in place with PWG planned since Joey Ryan has shown up for Season 2 and talent worked BOLA. They only have three shirts thus far at PWTs, hopefully after the first couple episodes they'll be releasing more like Pentagon and others to sell on there.

Yeah dude, their merch game needs to be more in that Young Bucks style. Lots merch for sale and see what sells.
I know some of the personalities may not be LU original content and many of the wrestlers have their own PWT shops, but at least work a deal with the wrestlers to split the profits on merch with their names/faces and the LU brand on them.

PWG just cherry picks the standouts and make money with them under their own banner. Same for a number of promotions who are doing the same. Meanwhile AAA is still struggling to figure out how to make a US return even though their guys are working just as much here as in Mexico. New Japan got in the door in the US by teaming up with Jersey All Pro. At the time, people were down on the move because JAPW was a minor player on the indy circuit. But it worked out great and got the current roster over with fans & JAPW made some decent cash off the move. There is no reason why LU can't find some indies to do the same. Masked Republic has done a couple of lucha shows in the old ECW Arena and they do shirts for some of the LU luchadors. And they are going to have to sell WWE level of t-shirts to make money especially for how much they are asking for them.

The thing is, Lucha Libre in America hasn't had much of an appeal to many people for the past fifteen years or so. Not since Mysterio was facing Juventud, Psychosis and La Parka and others in WCW. Ever since then, there hasn't been a lot of interest in it. Even myself, I only really got back into it this past year with LU which managed to bring people back into fold and catch their interest. Unlike New Japan, from what we've seen with The Alberto situation and Caristico the past four months and other reports, AAA is poorly ran and managed. I believe the priority for them in S2 is to break the 150 ratings boundary and try to reach over 200 thousand viewers by Ultima Lucha Dos, then they'll think about doing house shows and events.

Dude, we got plenty of people in the wrestling industry and a lot of online fans based in North America who are fans of Lucha Underground so the demand is there. They got cult status. There's a reason why Pentagon Jr, Fenix, Drago, and Aerostar are getting regular US bookings. The issue is that LU is doing like TNA and putting their future in tv ratings instead of making money off house shows & merch sells. LU did a decent rating on Unimas but so far Unimas is cold on them returning for season 2. Instead of trying to get on popular streaming platforms like Hulu, Amazon, or Netflix; if you want to watch the show without having cable, you got use a lesser known streaming sites and get content you're not going to watch like cable in order to watch. The funny part is that more people saw LU on ESPN late, last night than those who will see it all season.

They may not have the money to go on the road or do joint shows with other companies even if they want to do so. Its easy to suggest they do it but making it a reality when your funds are limited is another thing. Remember the talk of possibly moving it all to Texas because California was being more expensive than they thought? They don't have an unlimited checkbook so they have to watch what they are doing and it was reported that there would be budget cuts if they got S2 and the episode order was trimmed down to 24 in order to save money.

Chris Dejoseph confirmed that there have been talks about some sort of touring eventually but did not confirm of course if it would happen.
So IMO if there are talks it atleast shows there is a bigger plan at work here and just we have not been privee to the plans and he also eluded to a streaming service deal and other things on the table like dvd's.
And correction on the episode order it is 26 episodes for season 2.

There's also locking down talent for touring.
Most of those guys already work a schedule in Mexico, I'd imagine. They might be good for a one-off in the states, but overall they probably stay busy.

I know they got a limited budget. But that doesn't mean just give up and not get creative & start hustling. Their current game plan is not one of a company that wants to flip the script and have multiple seasons. Like TNA, they are not trying to make extra cash needed to make things easier for themselves but placing survival on tv deals. El Rey is a limited, new network with a limited budget. Placing their hopes on them backing them financially after each season is going to be a longshot. If they didn't find funds for this and next season, it was more than likely one and done. They cleared Canada but that still is not enough to fund their vision. What harm will it do to an official LU sponsored house show? Test the water and see if will make money. Because unless they clear a big network like Univision, we should sit back and enjoy the time we got with LU. Money is going to get tighter and seasons going to get shorter.
