Too much recently is Derek Jeter. Don't get me wrong, he's been GREAT; but this Godification of him in this last year was a lil ridiculous. I came in here hesitating to say this. Thank you for making me not have to.

Too much respect: Allen Iverson. I don't think he even approaches a top 100 player of all time, and people act like he's one of the greats. He was a complete chucker with unbelievably atrocious efficiency for most of his career, and never adapted his style of play. People also seem to think he "dragged a horrible 76ers team" to the Finals, which isn't true at all since the team was filled with great defenders and rebounders to offset his style of play. Plus, the Bucks should have beat them that year, it's not their fault that George Karl sucks. Not enough respect: Andruw Jones. Best defensive player of all time in the MLB maybe, and for that he should be in the Hall of Fame when his time is up. Eric Snow George Lynch Tyrone Hill Theo Ratliff(Then Mutumbo) Matt Geiger Aaron McKie Rodney Buford Nazr Mohammed Kevin Ollie Todd MacCulloch Jumaine Jones 56 wins NBA Finals As a Sixers's fan, he carried a team that had no business being in the finals. Plus he spent most of his career with no 2nd option, and when he did get another all-star to play off of(how many teams are winning anything without multiple stars), they were on the tail end of their careers.

Not enough: -Vitali Klitschko. Is one of the all time greats in boxing for sure. Possibly the greatest heavyweight fighter period. Like I'm sure he would of beaten all of the boxing greats in their prime. Has never been knocked down, knocked out, 2nd highest knockout percentage only behind Rocky Marciano. One of the most intelligent boxers of all time and an even better person (don't want to break the no politics rule) I hate to say it but I'm sure one of the main reason why both of the Klitschkos bros don't get much respect is simply due to the fact that they are their not Americans because if there were the same people who shit all over them would be singing their praises up the wazoo.

Mutombo was the reason they were in the Finals, because the Bucks had no answer for him in Game 7. AI played like absolute garbage at times in that series.

I'm a Jeter and Yankee fan and even I think the lovefest for him this year has been insanely overboard. Like Jeter said on Fallon post-retirement "They were acting like I died."
He's one of the great Yankees, but he still doesn't hold a candle to Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, or Mantle. And his defense was a liability on average, though he'd make the occasional amazing defensive play you'd never expect out of him.

He did, but he was for the most part the only offensive weapon on that team. Deke would have his moments, and so could McKie, but most of the time he was the only guy. Look at the Bucs, they had Big Dog, Allen, Cassell,

Wayne Rooney
Always praised by the media, yet consistently flops for England, and is usually carried by more talented team members at Man Utd.

Kinda mirrors when I mentioned Lennox Lewis earlier in the thread. Here's a guy who dominanted an era where there were still big names left (Holyfield, Tyson, etc.)and is never mentioned in a GOAT discussion. I can name any current heavyweights besides the Klitschkos. Also I feel that Wladimir deserves not too much respect due to embarrassing losses to mediocre nobodies Corrie Sanders and Lamon Brewster

Will stick with basketball for now.
Too much respect: Pistol Pete Maravich. Incredibly flashy and fun to watch, and did stuff that no one else was doing at the time, but I just don't think he's even in the conversation for the best players of his era. Lots of points on LOTS of shots for terrible teams that never won. Didn't make his teammates better, and couldnt win in the weakest period of NBA history. Same argument that was brought up about Iverson, really, but he doesnt have the trip to the finals as a point of argument.
Not enough respect: Ben Wallace. To me, he's neck and neck with Hakeem as the greatest defensive big man since Russell and Wilt. Anchored a championship team that dominated the eastern conference for years and years, and did so as one of the most dominant rebounders, shot blockers, and post defenders we've seen in the modern game. Had a 6-7 year stretch of super elite play, but it gets overlooked because he wasnt a scorer.
Also, because I love shouting out guys I think need more love in terms of an all-time perspective: Moses Malone (top 15 player ever), Dennis Rodman (greatest role player ever, best rebounder ever, insanely versatile/great defender), Dirk Nowitzki (Best offensive player of the 00s imo), Gary Payton (2nd greatest perimeter defender ever), Adrian Dantley (super efficient top tier scorer for years), Sam Jones (best offensive player on the Celtics dynasty), Grant Hill (pre injury he was an alltime great), and Pau Gasol (he gets WAY too much shit for being as good as he's been).

Pau Gasol (he gets WAY too much shit for being as good as he's been). I have never joked about Gasol's play. Just his resemblance to an alpaca. Still a great player.

Babe Ruth was nothing more than a fat old man with little girl legs. Here's something I found out recently, he wasn't really a Sultan!!!

Rick Nash gets way too much f***ing love by everyone. By far the most overrated hockey player the past decade. Only had one 70+ point season. For the longest time the excuse was he never played with elite talent in Columbus, goes to NY with Gaborik and Richards and Callahan and later with St. Louis plus others and still couldnt get shit done. Also holy f*** he was invisible during the playoffs last year. Not good when you're their highest paid player

You saying Iverson isn't in the top 100 players of all time AND Andruw Jones is the best defensive player of all times almost cost me my phone. I really wanted to throw it against the wall. Really, really terrible post.

RG3= Always hurt and a huge crybaby. Part of one of the worst trades in sports history. Where are the people who said he should have been drafted ahead of Andrew Luck?

I'm kinda biased on this but I don't think Don Mattingly gets enough respect. Sure back injuries shortened his career, and took away his power, but he was always a great hitter. And not only that, he was a tremendous fielder as well, and won multiple gold gloves. Like I said though, I'm biased. Don Mattingly is from my hometown, and he'll always be my favorite baseball player. I've met him a few times, especially when he used to shop in my store. He was always a very nice guy as long as you didn't pester him for autographs, or pictures.
