I completely forgot he was on that show. I just remember Phil Hartman and Dave Foley. Rogan was one of my favorites on there. Him, Hartman and Root. The episode where he had an "MMA" bout against Andy Dick's character and lost by tapping out to tickling has stuck with me for years. Kept expecting WWE to rip it off with Santino and someone. "You're last name is Garelli?"

Joe Rogan has flip-flopped alot on the subject of wrestling. One day the dude is praising how they go through the schedule and take pain, then another day you get what he said in the OP. Probably depends on who he's with at the time, but I think there's some appreciation for the biz in his heart....right beside his man-crush for Brock Lesnar. Tony Hinchcliffe is a HUGE wrestling fan (Vince was going to hire him as a writer) so Joe was just busting his balls all episode. I listened to the whole episode at the time and took it as just ribbing among friends.

As you said, Hichcliffe is a huge fan and Joe was definitely ribbing him. In the opposite scenario, if someone came in and shat on WWE or wrestling in general, while he admittedly isn't a fan, I have 100% faith that Joe would find the things he likes about it and defend wrestling.

ok known mma fighters who are huge wrestling fans.
Tom Lawlor, Chael Sonnen, Daniel Cormier, Rashad Evans, Ronda Rousey, Josh Barnett (also a pro wrestler on his own right), and some Canadian guy I think he retired late last year....
Yeah motherf***ing GSP, one of the highest ppv draws of the ufc (around 800 000 buys average) is a fan. Both MMA and Wrestling should embrace themselves, MMA borrowed elements from pro wrestling to become popular, the WWE should consider borrowing too, like the segments Brock and Cena did for Summerslam, I want to see guys training for a big match, not just main eventers, but it would be cool to see Dolph doing amateur wrestling or hitting the gym. Or Bad News Barrett hitting a heavy bag with his elbows.

I wish WWE would take the actual training videos(much like UFC) and put it into their programming(on TV to be exact). Take 5 minutes and show someone like Rusev actually training Muay Thai or Sambo. Have him destroy training partners. Pay some actor(or actual coach) to say that Rusev is the most dangerous guy at his gym and that he injures training partners. That would add so much to Rusev's character than a boring promo about how USA sucks would. Have a video of Ambrose working out in some dingy, hole-in-the-wall of a gym, working the heavy bag. Then have a video of Rollins in the training facility decked out in nice workout gear and using nice equipment while the stooges spot him and yell motivational phrases. Just small things like this would make a world of difference. Shave off some time spent shilling and little people wrestling and do up some sweet videos that looks into the training methodology and skill sets of these superstars and you can start to build a better connection with the wrestlers and the fans.

I was so pissed when I heard about that thru twitter. I listen to his show quite a lot (he has 557 shows and I started around 200 or so) so I was bummed out to hear him say that. Believe it or not he has a good insight in life. I used to get that 'douchebro' vibe from him and I am sure it is there somewhere but as I kept listening I saw past that and saw that he really is a good reasonable person. I know this might seem weird and I know most of your will not even read this but his show actually did change my life. I got to know all these funny, intelligent and interesting people all through his podcast.
Either way, I heard the whole podcast because why would someone be mad at someone else from just reading something on twitter and I have to say that it was pretty funny. He was just teasing his friend about wrestling and they both were laughing and having a good time. The whole goldust bit was super funny.
At the end of the day I don't have to justify my interest to anyone.

Eh, I woudn't take anything he says too seriously. It's just Joe Rogan being Joe Rogan.
I really don't get why people like him. He's loud, obnoxious and a terrible commentator.

Yeah, I've heard Joe talk with a lot of respect for wrestlers on other episodes of his podcast, even if he personally isn't much of a fan.

Pretty much. Most times I hear Rogan talk about wrestling and wrestlers, it's in a respectful and positive way, even though he isn't a fan. I'm sure the "fake" aspect really does turn him off, and he truly doesn't GET it, but for this episode he was obviously just playing around with a super hardcore wrestling fan and being an exaggerated version of himself to mess with Tony. And they were cracking each other up, especially when Tony explained Goldust and Stardust. They both had fun with it, so in context it didn't come across as anything bad to me, in fact it was one of my favorite episodes.

...and yet, I'd kill to have Joe Rogan do commentary on Raw rather than King or JBL.

I am certain Rogan has since clarified on Twitter that he was using hyperbole for hype about his podcast and, while not a fan of wrestling, he respects the performers and the passion of the fans and admitted he liked "stupid things too".

If he needs to do stuff like this to gain attention for his podcast, it's probably not worth listening to

You know, I can understand some of y'all being upset over what he said about wrestling and the fan base but showing the same level of ignorance and hatred toward MMA and that fan base only proves him right. Not to mention we have a decent amount of MMA fans on here that don't deserve to be painted with that brush. To be fair, most of the complains have been less of "MMA is human cockfighting" and far more of "Joe Rogan is uber douchebag/Says the guy who hosted Fear Factor". Seriously can't stand the guy. In Joe Rogan's world, the smartest human being alive is Joe Rogan.

Which is actually mentioned in the article in the OP which is why the overreaction is so strange to me. Even without context, guy doesn't like pro wrestling. So what?
