They may have planned to reveal it, assuming Hogan would always come back. Once it was clear Hogan wasn't returning, then there was no point. It was Harvey Wippleman, but this was not revealed on television or PPV. I think they had plans in the back of their head for a Hogan/Giant Gonzalez match. They did film a showdown following a tag team lumberjack match from a TV taping. This image is from that: The Smoking Gunns seem to really be enjoying each others company outside the ring in this picture.

I think Hogan vs Gonzales was a house-show only thing. Both were already on their way out, Hogan was just finishing up dates and WWE had decided not to use the big fella after Summerslam, the RIP match with Taker was probably already signed and promoted the time he had his thing at the live events with Hogan.

He had Giant Gonzalez sent out on a mission to destroy The Undertaker and as an aside takes a moment of his time to kill Hulkamania. The dude was killing of our idols in '93!

Notice though how everyone in the crowd is on their feet. That didn't happen a lot in 1993.....or 1994....or very much at all until 97/98

Hogan was really the natural opponent for Gonzalez. I think that Hogan could have had a place on the card had they just kept him away from the title picture, and ditto for Savage. Let them pursue personal objectives while building the title scene around future stars. I think people would have enjoyed seeing Hogan go through Giant Gonzalez, Bastion Booger, Papa Shango and Damien DeMento.

That hinges on Hogan being able to accept that he wasn't the center of attention.
