Royal Rumble 1992 was classic When Flair drew #3 Gorilla tormented Heenan mercilessly, emphasising that Flair had no chance. Heenan reacted as though the world had literally ended. But he got the last laugh. "You can kiss it goodbye, Brain!"

But he got the last laugh. The 92 rumble is a combo of greatness. Of course Monsoon and Heenan, but the fact Flair did an amazing job and the fact like 80-90% of the Rumble had or would have history one way or another with him

I think Heenan's the only guy who ever made Vince McMahon corpse on screen as well.

Survivor Series 91
Monsoon : Can I get a couple of security guards please? Heenan : What, are you going to order another hot dog? Monsoon : No, I'm going to have you taken out of here!

Vastly preferred Gorilla and Jesse, but to each their own.

Just watched the first WCW COTC from 1994 when Heenan debuts on commentary with Tony. They had some brighter moments together than this, but listening to Heenan and Schiavone was almost as painful as Ventura and Schiavone. It's just clear that Heenan was trying to slip immediately back into the role he played vs. Monsoon and McMahon, and Tony is just NOT that guy. In a way, I really feel bad for Tony because he was stuck in that position of having to perform in a style that was not suited to his strengths. Bobby or Jesse will make some comment while I'm thinking up decent replies for Tony, but then he either just ignores them or says something kinda lame.

I like how at Rumble 92 he offered to go to Gorilla hot dogs several times throughout to sneak back and find out Flair's number. When Monsoon refused, "I know just how you like them! Mustard and extra onions!" ----------------------------- In his book, Heenan says Monsoon would always walk around with about 25K worth of cash on him. Heenan asked why he'd do that, "What if I want to buy something?" Heenan says, "What, the Green Bay Packers and a house?"

Vastly preferred Gorilla and Jesse, but to each their own. So did I, but each team was different and had their own strengths. Gorilla and Brain was like a straight man/comedy guy partnership. Razor sharp wit and banter. Gorilla and Jesse were like a sports announce team. The classic play by play/heelish but honest colour guy.

Tangentially related, but does anyone remember what the Ventura/Monsoon episodes of Prime Time were like. I know Jesse hosted with Jack Reynolds (whom he had no chemistry with), and there weren't too many of shows with the former two, but I was just curious how their on-air commentary translated to a studio environment.

I also thought Roddy Piper did a good job as color man after Jesse left. He had unmatched enthusiasm for the product, and he was a babyface who would speak his mind, even if he was jabbing other babyfaces. I agree. One of the things that made SummerSlam 91 great was the interaction between Monsoon, Heenan, and Piper. "One day Piper came home from school and his parents had run away." "WILL YOU BE SERIOUS?! I'LL HAVE YOU THROWN OUT OF HERE! I'm so sorry, Roddy."

Yes he did That was what was great about Heenan leaving, if anything about that can be great, Monsoon finally did what he always threatened. Absolutely, if Heenan had to leave this was the perfect way to do it.
