Does anyone know of any cases where wrestlers have actually commented on the difference between working in a WWE 20x20 ring vs. working in a WCW 16x16 ring?
I've never been inside a wrestling ring, but sometimes watching WCW I get the idea that the 16x16 ring was somewhat constricting, especially to guys who were coming over from WWE. It just seems like that extra few feet to run would be helpful when setting up moves where one or both of the wrestlers are accelerating and bouncing off the ropes. Also, it seemed like the WCW ring was harder, which may have had something to do with it being smaller also.

I believe they might have bumped it up to 18x18 toward the end, but I'm pretty sure it was usually 16x16, which was more typical at the time than the 20x20 ring.

Yea WCW's were 18x18. The entire ring is set up different from WWE's. The ring floors were stiffer, the ropes were steel cable instead of real rope, the ropes were lower than WWE's (the top rope barely came to Hogan's mid-back in WCW), the rigging under the ring is different, and their padding was different as well (think it is thicker than WWE's).

I vaguely recall Lance Storm saying he liked the bigger ring.

Austin talks about it in his podcast with Justin Credible.

I want to say that Jericho commented about how it took some time to get used to counting your steps when running the ropes, but I could be pulling that straight out of my ass.

I recall Booker T having some trouble adjusting to the WWE ring during Invasion

Advantage to one over the other?

Advantage to one over the other? Real ropes loosen up over time (something steel cable doesn't) as people bounce and spring off of them making springboard moves and other things where they are a base harder to do. I think the real ropes were easier on the body compared to the steel cable though.

I've heard may wrestlers over the years including Austin and Bret Hart comment on how much the liked the WWF's ring better. I did hear a lot of guys talk about how it was hard to get their timing down with the bigger ring but once they got it, they never wanted to go back to a smaller ring.

Oh OK yeah I haven't heard anything about their stiffness. Although with it being a smaller ring, it would make sense for there to be less give. That's outside what I've heard tho

I never really understood how the WWE rings use regular ropes for their ring. If it's just standard rope, how do they get it to be so stretchy and springy? Normal rope doesn't seem like it would be so elastic-like.

Normal rope doesn't seem like it would be so elastic-like. I remember reading a WWE Magazine article about the ring, and it is a special type of rope that they have imported. The rope is treated and soaked in some kind of oil in its production. The WWE house show rings used to be smaller than the TV rings but not sure if they all have the 20x20 now.

What used to freak me out about the WWF ring is that the canvas would look white on tv but really blue in still photos
