We're kicking things off with, surprise!, a tie. T-18 Evolution (Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista) vs. The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns) - Extreme Rules 2014 - 5 Points (Listed #7 once)At WrestleMania XXX, Evolution had a very bad night, and The Shield had a very good one. Trips, Orton, and Batista went 0-3 on the night, while The Shield squashed Kane and the New Age Outlaws. Plus, with their vocal support of new WWE Champion Daniel Bryan, The Shield was the largest thorn in The Authority's side since The Big Show. So Triple H decided to get the band back together and declare war on The Hounds of Justice, with the first of their two encounters coming at Extreme Rules. The two sides battled it out all over the arena, which apparently possessed Seth Rollins with the spirit of New Jack, leading him to dive off a balcony onto all five other men in the contest. In the end, The Shield stood tall, but Evolution wasn't done with them just yet.

T-18 Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar - No Disqualification Match - SummerSlam 2012 - 5 Points (Listed #6 once)Brock Lesnar had run rampant through WWE in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam. With assault on Triple H's father-in-law Mr. McMahon and best friend Shawn Michaels already under his belt, The Game had enough and challenged The Beat to a No-DQ match at SummerSlam. Of course, challenging Brock Lesnar never ends well for those doing the challenging, and that ended no differently here. The Game was close, but eventually tapped out to the Kimura Lock to give Lesnar a much-needed win after his loss to John Cena at Extreme Rules a few months earlier. There followed a pathetic attempt by Haitch to garner the sympy (copyright Scott Steiner) of the people, but that's another story.

T-18 Triple H vs. Kurt Angle - WWF Championship Match - Royal Rumble 2001 - 5 Points (Listed #6 once)Having been named #1 Contender by father-in-law Vince McMahon, The Game looked like he had everything in his favor heading into this title match. Kurt Angle would have other ideas, but he couldn't beat Trips on his own. After Hebner took a bump and Angle took a Pedigree, Hunter went to get the ref when glass shattered. Steve Austin charged down the ramp and gave The Game a Stunner, then rolled him back into the ring as revenge for HHH costing Austin the Championship a few weeks earlier on Raw. A dazed Angle rolled on top of Triple H for the pin, and Angle left victorious. Austin and Triple H, however, were far from finished.

T-15 Evolution vs. The Shield - No Holds Barred Elimination Match - Payback 2014 - 6 Points (Listed #7 once)It was the night of Bluetista, the night of a sweep, and (as we would learn the next night), the last night of The Shield. Triple H was furious that Evolution had lost to The Shield at Extreme Rules a month ago, and so threw down the gauntlet a second time. This time, the two would face off in an elimination match, with no-disqualifications. Perhaps they should've learned their lesson from last month. Not only did The Shield win, not only did Rollins top himself with a dive off the TitanTron, but The Hounds won in a clean sweep. Batista went first to a Spear, Orton fell to Dirty Deeds on a chair, and after a surprising amount of resistance from a 1-on-3 deficit, Triple H fell victim first to a knee from Rollins, and another Spear from Reigns. Evolution fell 0-3, and for one final night, The Hounds of Justice stood tall.

T-15 Triple H vs. Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker vs. Rikishi vs. Steve Austin vs. The Rock - Armageddon Hell in a Cell Match for the WWF Championship - Armageddon 2000 - 6 Points (Listed #5 once)What a cast of characters this match had. We had defending Champion Kurt Angle, The Rock, still cracking wise as if this were a match with The Brooklyn Brawler, Steve Austin, who was just beginning to get "WHAT?" over, Rikishi, who did it for The Rock and The People, The Undertaker, now in his American Badass persona, and of course, The Game. This match was the first and last of it's kind; six men, one cell, whoever comes out in one piece wins. Rikishi got thrown off the cell onto a truck, Trips got his head smashed through some car windows...in terms of WWE brutality, it's hard to top this match. After the obligatory finisher spam spot, Angle would just barely get a cover, and escaped the cell with the Championship still his.

T-15 Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels vs. JBL vs. Umaga - Winner receives a WWE Championship Match at WrestleMania XXIV - Elimination Chamber Match - No Way Out 2008 - 6 Points (Listed #5 once)Randy Orton had been running roughshod over Monday Nights since claiming the Championship, and with John Cena cashing in his Rumble win a month early, six of Raw's best and brightest would do battle in Satan's Playground for the right to face him at WrestleMania. JBL was the first to go after eating a Codebreaker, and Umaga would follow after taking a Swanton from the top of a pod. Jericho was next to go after some Sweet Chin Music, and Triple H would capitalize on this by hitting Michaels with the Pedigree. Down to just Hardy and The Game, the two would go at it for a while before Triple H introduced a new element: a steel chair. One Pedigree onto said chair later, and The Game was going to WrestleMania.

T-13 Triple H vs. The Rock - 60 Minute Iron-Man Match for the WWF Championship - Special Guest Referee: Shawn Michaels - Judgment Day 2000 - 7 Points (Listed #6 once)Some time beforehand, Vince McMahon turned on The Rock to form the McMahon-Helmsley Faction/Regime/Factgime. Heading into Backlash, the odds were against The People's Champ, but with the help of Steve Austin, The Rock escaped. Hunter would then demand a rematch against The Rock, which he accepted. Shawn Michaels also got involved, asking to be the Special Referee for the contest. Despite Triple H begging him not to, Shawn wore those damn short shorts. The two men fought to a 5-5 draw with under four minutes to go when Michaels took a bump and the Factgime swarmed the ring. With Rocky under attack, it seemed like Triple H winning the title was inevitable. But then music played through the arena and creepy children showed up on the screen, and The Undertaker returned to clear house! Tombstones went out to all parties involved, but unfortunately for The Champ, it was about this time that Michaels woke up. Seeing Undertaker assault Triple H, Michaels had no choice but to, with one second left, award a sixth and final point to The Game via disqualification.

T-13 Triple H vs. Randy Orton - Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship - No Mercy 2007 - 7 Points (Listed #4 once)Oh boy, was this event weird. At the top of the show, Raw GM William Regal and WWE COO Vince McMahon awarded the vacant WWE Championship to Randy Orton. Triple H, needless to say, wouldn't stand for this, and so challenged Orton to a match for the Championship, to begin immediately. Triple H won after a roll-up, and would successfully defend the title against Umaga later that night, but the story doesn't end there. An incensed Orton demanded a rematch, which he got, under Last Man Standing rules. Triple H, fighting in his third contest of the night, put up a valiant effort, but it was for naught. Trips would try to Pedigree Orton through an announce table (this coming after taking both a DDT and RKO onto a chair), but Orton would counter and put The Game through the table himself. Trips couldn't respond to the count of ten, and so Orton won the WWE Championship for the second time that night.

(NOTE: I forgot to include Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit from Backlash 2004. It finished tied for 15th, with 6 points. Thank you.) 11 Triple H vs. The Rock - WWF Championship Match - Special Guest Referee: Shane McMahon - Backlash 2000 - 12 Points (Listed #3 once)Triple H and the Factgime had reigned supreme for a while when The People's Champ laid down the gauntlet. Triple H would accept, on the condition that Shane McMahon was made guest referee. Of course, Shane O'Mac wasn't much help to The Rock. Notably, The Rock hit The Game with a DDT through one table, which Shane refused to count for. That certainly would have given The Rock the win, but Shane was adamant. Fed up with his bullshit, Rocky would Rock Bottom both Shane and Triple H through an announce table, as seen above. Eventually though, Triple H gained the advantage, and seemed ready to win after interference from the Factgime and crooked ref Earl Hebner, when glass shattered and Steve Austin came to the rescue. Thanks to Stone Cold's interference, The Rock would once again capture the WWF Championship.

T-10 Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kane vs. Booker T - Elimination Chamber Match for the World Heavyweight Championship - Survivor Series 2002 - 13 Points (Listed #5 once)Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff had a problem. After awarding Triple H the Big Gold, five men emerged, each demanding a shot at the championship. Shortly after, either Eric or Triple H himself (depending on who you believe) came up with the concept of the Elimination Chamber. Six men, one enormous structure, eliminate until only one man is left standing. And so, in the first iteration of what has become one of the WWE's most popular matches, the five challengers went to hell and back in an effort to take Triple H's World Heavyweight Championship, while Triple H did everything he could to keep it. Fun fact, at some point during this match, Van Dam came crashing down knee-first on Triple H's throat. This makes the fact that Michaels and Hunter basically called the match by ear for the last nine minutes even more astounding. Van Dam, Booker, Kane and Jericho would fall, and in the end, one Sweet Chin Music would net Michaels his final World title of any kind in the WWE. (Taking a break to make sure I don't forget anything else. Will return to finish at about four. When we come back: -Six gimmick matches! -Six matches at Big Four events! -Just two repeat opponents!)

(I'm unable to find a picture for this one...)
T-10 Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels - World Heavyweight Championship - Monday Night Raw, December 29th, 2003 - 13 Points (Listed #2 once)
Surprise surprise, Triple H was once again the World Heavyweight Champion. On the final Raw of 2003, Michaels would challenge his old friend/enemy/whichever it was that week in an attempt to capture that elusive 5th World Championship.
Michaels came up short, of course, but not before putting on a last-second contender for 2003's match of the year.

9 Triple H vs. The Rock - Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship - SummerSlam 1998 - 15 Points (Listed #4 once)Most people cite this as the match that made both Rock and Triple H main eventers. Hard to argue with that after watching it. The scene: The Rock, leading the Nation of Domination after deposing Faarooq, was set to collide with Degeneration-X leader Triple H at SummerSlam in New York for Rocky's Intercontinental Championship. Lots of hard-hitting action ensued, including shenanigans with ladders and chairs, as well as interference on Chyna's part. Sometime during the match, Trips would sustain a leg injury that would eventually force him to vacate the title. This caused Rock to have to stall for time by sloowwwllyyy walking down the ramp with a ladder, sloowwwwlllyyyy setting said ladder up, and even more slowly climb up the ladder while he waited for Triple H to recover. In the end, Chyna proved the difference, as she hit a low blow on The Rock as he was climbing, thus letting Triple H drag himself up the ladder and claim the Intercontinental Championship. (As a final note, it was shortly after this match that WWF turned The Rock face. Thus, the People's Champ was born.)

8 Triple H vs. Batista - Hell in a Cell Match for the World Heavyweight Championship - Vengeance 2005 - 19 Points (Ranked #2 once)We go from the match that made Rock and Triple H to the match that made Batista. This wasn't too long after The Animal beat Triple H for the World Championship at WrestleMania 21 and retained it at Backlash. After defending his title against Edge on Raw, Trips would ambush Batista with Sledgie and challenge him to a Hell in a Cell match. Boy oh boy, this was a brutal match. We've got Triple H getting assaulted with barbed wire, Triple H getting thrown headfirst into the steps, Batista getting choked with a chain and hit with a barbed wire chair, and of course, sledgehammer shenanigans. At the climax, Triple H's sledgehammer broke in half, but still had it in his arms as Batista went for the Batista Bomb. Triple H came thisclose to clocking The Animal with it as the move reached it's apex, but Batista planted Hunter into the mat, and so retained the World Championship. Triple H, oddly enough, would receive a standing ovation after the match.

7 Triple H vs. Daniel Bryan - Winner is added to the WWE World Championship Match - WrestleMania XXX - 22 Points (Listed #4 once)IN WHICH: Triple H's Final Boss entrance isn't the best of the night. Bryan's YES! Movement had hijacked Raw a few weeks prior, demanding a match against Triple H, as well as a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match. Faced with the stoppage of Raw, Triple H had no choice but to give in. But next week, he revealed he had one final ace up his sleeve. Triple H and Daniel Bryan would fight in the opening contest of WrestleMania XXX, and if Bryan won, he'd be added to the main event against Randy Orton and Batista. But if The Game won, he would be added to the match instead. Triple H would proceed to attack Bryan, giving special focus to his injured arm. Skip to the night of WrestleMania. A rowdy crowd had filled the SuperDome, all of them wanting to see Bryan emerge victorious. Triple H and Bryan would wage an all-out war: Bryan hit a tornado DDT off the apron, Triple H would apply a crossface chickenwing, a crossface (later reversed into the Yes Lock), and even bust out a Tiger Suplex. By all standards, it was Triple H's best match in a long time. The Game would plant Bryan with a Pedigree, but he somehow kicked out at two. After a series of counters and reversals, Bryan finally dazed Triple H long enough to hit the Knee Plus, and put The Game down for good.

6 Triple H vs. Cactus Jack - Hell in a Cell - Triple H's WWF Championship vs. Cactus Jack's Career - No Way Out 2000 - 28 Points (Listed #3 three times)Cactus Jack had come up just short in his Street Fight against The Game a month earlier, and craved another shot at the WWF Championship. Triple H accepted, one on condition: if Jack lost, it would be the end of his career. While it didn't work out that way (Foley would return just a month later for WrestleMania 2000), they made Cactus's last match one to remember, and one that certainly fit his persona. Among the laundry list of items used: a barbed-wire wrapped 2x4 (later set on fire), steel chairs, and the ring steps. It was when those ring steps met the cell wall that we'd take things outside. Jack hit the stump puller piledriver through a table on Triple H, and then climbed up the cell. Triple H followed, and it seemed like he was about to be hit with the piledriver again when The Game backdropped him, sending him through the cell and buckling the ring's foundation. Triple H dropped down for the cover. That didn't put Jack away. Cactus stood up and was planted with a Pedigree. That did.

5 Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Benoit - World Heavyweight Championship - WrestleMania XX - 35 Points (Listed #3 twice)This match is widely counted as one of the greatest WrestleMania main events of all time, if not the greatest. Benoit had outlasted 29 other men from the #1 spot to win the 2004 Royal Rumble Match. After some consideration, he decided that he wanted to face Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, at the contract signing, Shawn Michaels appeared as if from nowhere, superkicked both men, and signed his name on the dotted line. This, I suppose, wasn't challenged by either man or WWE's legal squad, and so the match became a triple threat. The resulting match was nothing short of a classic. The two challengers seemed to be fighting amongst themselves before they'd go after Triple H in the start, which was soon capitalized upon by The Game. Benoit had Michaels trapped in the Crippler Crossface, but Triple H would intervene, saving the match and his title. Michaels and Triple H would then team up on the Royal Rumble winner, and put him through the announce table. After this, Michaels would be on the bad end of a Pedigree, but Benoit would recover just in time to break up the pin. HBK went for Sweet Chin Music, but Benoit countered and threw him out of the ring, putting it down to him and Triple H. Triple H would try to hit the Pedigree on Benoit once again, but Benoit countered into the Crossface! With nowhere to go, Triple H tapped, Benoit had the World Championship, and he would celebrate with best friend Eddie Guerrero (who had retained his WWE Championship earlier that night) as confetti fell and the PPV came to a close.

4 Triple H vs. The Undertaker - "End of an Era" Hell in a Cell Match - Special Guest Referee: Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania XXVIII - 37 Points (Listed #1 once)Last year, at WrestleMania XXVII, Triple H and Undertaker squared off in a No Holds Barred Match that ended in a way that no Undertaker match at WrestleMania had to that point. He didn't lose, but he had to be carried out of the ring. Evidently, Triple H would claim this as a moral victory over The Deadman, who made his return on Raw just as Trips was about to fire John Laurinaitis. After a series of increasingly-bizarre segments in which Undertaker cut off his wig, Triple H would eventually cave into Undertaker's demands for a rematch, but on one condition: the match would be held inside Hell in a Cell. Somewhere along the way, Michaels would intervene in the build, and eventually became the Special Referee for the match. On the go-home (or thereabouts, my memory isn't all that good), Undertaker would toss an aerosol can onto the flames by saying that Michaels was always better than Triple H. Phew! All this before the opening bell rang. The match began evenly enough (although Shawn looked like he was having an existential crisis for most of it), but when the two went outside, Undertaker cracked the match wide open, battering Trips all across ringside. It wasn't until they returned to the ring, and until Triple H countered Hell's Gate, that The Game would gain the advantage, pummeling Undertaker with the ring steps. Kickouts (and weapon shots) galore would ensue, with Taker kicking out of a Pedigree and surviving a Sweet Chin Music/Pedigree combo from the two. In turn, Triple H would kick out of a Tombstone Piledriver. In the end, it took a second Tombstone to put The Game away and run Undertaker's Streak to 20-0.

3 Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels - Unsanctioned Street Fight - SummerSlam 2002 - 39 Points (Listed #1 once)My favorite match from my favorite PPV. Michaels made a surprise return sometime earlier and, due to Triple H's influence, was able to choose his brand, landing on Raw. The duo teased a D-X reunion, but Triple H would blindside his best friend by laying him out with his sledgehammer, targeting HBK's surgically-repaired back. Sometime after, Michaels was found unconscious in a parking lot, bleeding from the head. Triple H would feign innocence and try to find the real perpetrator, which smacked of OJ Simpson looking for the real killer. Eventually, a wheelchair-bound Michaels would confront Triple H, who admitted to attacking Shawn in the parking lot. However, Michaels wasn't as hurt as he let on and, reminding Trips "don't hunt what you can't kill", blasted The Game with Sweet Chin Music, and laid down a challenge for SummerSlam. Originally intended to be a one-time only return to the ring for Michaels (his first match since WrestleMania XIV), The Game and HBK put on one for the ages, with Triple H playing the heel role to perfection by assaulting Michaels' back. HBK would slowly fight his way back into it, hitting a plancha through a table and his signature elbow drop off the top of a ladder. Michaels was rolling and went for Sweet Chin Music, but Triple H countered and went for a Pedigree, which was countered into a jackknife cover for the pin. Michaels won, but Triple H wouldn't let this go easily, hitting Michaels in the back twice more with the sledgehammer. However, Michaels was apparently convinced he had a lot more left in the tank, and would wrestle full-time for another eight years.
