Well, he did planned out the Miz interupting for heel heat while knowing one of WWE's former big sponsors, the US National Guard, was in the house. But getting back to the Rusev vs the USA angle. This isn't played for international WWE fans. It's playing on American national pride and the people who want to trample on our traditions and way of life. It is a long running trope that been around since the Romans were portrayed by the Greeks as evil and hedonistic during ancient Greco-Roman matches. No different from Los Gringo Locos from the 90's and the Bullet Club of today. A bulk of folks are willing to overlook the logic gaps of this angle because the evil foreigner wants to ruin America. Sure he isn't breaking as much rules as he should nor looking like a tremendous or weak asshole. But he isn't as innocent and justified in his evil as some think he is. It would help if Rusev gave some type of hint at being anti-American. He goes out an wrecks shit in spectacular fashion but I never get the sense that he's anti-American or pro-Russia. He's only an "evil foreigner" because he's evil and happens to be foreign. He insults America in promos. How much blatant he has to be? Piss on the flag? Rape an eagle? Why is Rusev and Lana working when so many here predicted failure? Because Putin decided to take things back to Cold War levels and rebirth the evil Russian stereotype. All WWE had to do was up the Putinisms. |

There are some morons out there. The whining about the soldier segment on facebook from losers who have decided to get offended by it is pathetic. People saying they're not watching WWE again, saying it was offensive, disrespectful, bad taste and other nonsense. No wonder WWE doesn't take risks anymore. People are so bloody easily offended nowadays. That is one of the reasons why Twitter and Facebook shouldn't exist, it gives an excuse for people to be whiny bitches. Right. I thought it was hilarious that he got so choked up about it. A soldier is willing to risk their life in the line of duty. All he did was get kicked. Also, Show is a vet, he should not be ok with anyone in the crowd storming the ring.
The only thing that would've saved the segment was if the soldier was Cena's buddy Tony.

This is why it would be so funny if Rusev had been written as not speaking English. If he actually didn't know what Lana was saying, and was mystified and upset that the American fans didn't like him. He looks like such a loveable putz, that it could have been fun if Lana was just feeding him lies about how Americans hate foreigners and
But I like him and Lana as being completely on the same page, anyway. And Rusev is a pretty good talker, especially for a guy speaking a foreign language.

This was such a ridiculous angle last night. First off, is a guy promoting Russia and doing some USA dissing really enough to provoke a soldier into jumping a guard rail? It isn't like Rusev threatened to burn the American flag or something. Second, I found myself almost entirely agreeing with Rusev! You can't have fans jumping the rail to go after the wrestlers. The minute someone does that they are going to get their ass kicked and to me Rusev didn't really do anything wrong in this case.

It feels like it's all Lana and Rusev is just there because someone has to wrestle the matches. That's what people mean when they say Rusev isn't really doing anything wrong. If they were just there to win matches then then no talking would be necessary. But that's not what Rusev and Lana do. They go out of their way to insult the country they live and work in as well as its citizens who's participation in the product pay their salaries. They're jerks. I don't get what's so hard to understand about this. |

My biggest disappointment is, we saw Show go off hunting for Rusev after finding his lockeroom empty and then.......... nothing. We had time to get the Wyatt segment repeated but no more of Show hunting Rusev? He's the Big Show not the Persistent Show |

I always wonder what the international audience thinks of this angle or any USA vs foreign heel angle. People in the UK or Ireland or India or ANYWHERE that isn't the United States. I'm sure they couldn't care less and probably don't even watch.
It's like if the WWE was doing a China vs Germany angle. I would have absolutely no interest. You're alienating so much of your audience.

Soldiers defend what the flag represents, not the flag itself. A soldier trying to attack somebody for doing something to the flag is the polar OPPOSITE of what the first amendment is for.
There's a reason that burning the flag in protest isn't a crime in the US.
