I loved his heel run and all his desperate attempts to make the crowd stop cheering him, but I was pissed when he turned because he never got to have a decent run as THE guy. Plus one of his 1st feuds was with King, who managed to invoke boring chants in a steel cage match.

Really stupid idea. It just didn't feel convincing and how he was the Heel between he, Cena, and the Rock was beyond me. I would've had him lose the belt to The Rock and then win it back in a triple threat match at Mania with Cena involved.

If there's something I've learned over the years, it's that you are damn near never the only one to like or not like a certain thing. There are others out there who share your opinion.

I don't think the turn should have happened since Punk was still very over and didn't get many chances to main-event PPVs during his face title reign, but the heel turn did give us the "Punk jumping barricade" gif.

I found it tiresome pretty fast because nobody would boo him. It was almost impossible for him to get heat. And when they FINALLY had someone who had heat against him in the form of Ryback, they killed Ryback.

WWE not giving him the ball and letting him be *the* guy is the exact reason he turned, no? I feel like Punk specifically asked for them to do it because he was always just playing second fiddle to Cena, even when he was the champ...

It was good for some of the moments we got out of it but it was f****ing stupid and shouldn't have been done until people got sick of Punk on top.

Without playing armchair booker, I thought it was cool as heel. The sheer apathy, and tonue-in-cheekness Punk and Heyman were playing reminded me of the nWo. Two perormers having legitimate fun with one another and the angle they were playing.
Loved it. Felt it would of overall be looked on more fondly had he ended it with Cena at WrestleMania instead of Rock at the Rumble.

It was either obvlivious mismanagement or sabotage. I'm torn on whether I think they were incompetent or just stupid. Or Punk's idea? He likes being heel

I loved it at the beginning, when it had some depth. I thought the initial stuff with Lawler was great, when Punk was pissed at him for saying he'd turned his back on the WWE Universe. The quote from Punk in response was "Damn it, that's something I NEVER did.", and it was great because his character in August of that year gave the impression that he was going to be a face to his fans, and a heel to everyone else. Basically like Sycho Sid. But then a few weeks go by, and suddenly he's bashing on the fans who rallied behind him in 2011 and saying they never respected him. I was done right there. That was the very moment the turn became generic and forced.

I hated it because it meant one thing : Cena was going to become World Champion AGAIN That's weird because Punk lost the belt to the Rock. Cena is always going to be in the world title mix. Just like the belt always eventually come back to Hogan back in the day. Only time it wasn't a sure thing was when he left for WCW.

I do often wonder how fun a face Punk/heel Rock program would have been (no matter how unrealistic the prospect). Honestly if you look at their characters it seems like it makes more sense that way. Punk as the passionate performer taking on all comers because he's dedicated to the business going against the entitled Hollywood star gone for 10 years getting a title shot because he feels he its his to have. Even if you have to get Cena involved a triple threat elimination match with the three of them at Wrestlemania with Rock getting knocked out first and Punk/Cena finally facing off at the biggest stage of them all could have been pretty cool.

I did enjoy the rhetorical gymnastics involved in retconning the pipebomb pre-Royal Rumble 2013. It never really comes up, mind.

If it was his idea, it was the wrong call in terms of the overall product. That face run had a lot of juice left. WWE should've just told him no in that case. Orton reportedly wanted to turn heel forever and they wouldn't do it.

I enjoyed it but Punk as tweener was so Epic. But I'm not surprised at the WWE going with their tails between their legs out of fear and turning him heel. Cause it was too complicated for them. Too much effort to book shows around that. Just look at Ambrose, they have no idea what to do with him. And with his crazy character, they'll turn him heel sooner than later.
(I put a "like" on my post but it's a mistake, I wanted to edit my post)

There was just so much wasted potential. Arrogant dick babyface punk vs the ULTIMATE Arrogant dick babyface, the Rock. Instead, it was "Boo me, god dammit!" Punk vs admittedly pretty awesome the Rock.
Losing the title (and rematch) to the Rock would have lead directly into him challenging the Undertaker (and not having to go to the lengths he did to try to get heat) and taking time off following Mania, only to come back and challenge Brock. It was an easy, fun, and marketable storyline...that WWE threw out the window because... I can't say, really. They were fine with Rock/Cena being Face/Face (ha!).

Everyone wanted a lot of more of Punk as the anti-establishment babyface, but they did the turn anyway. I get they wanted Punk as a heel for Rock vs. Punk at the Royal Rumble, but I think they should have just sown the seeds at Raw 1000 and had Punk go heel closer to the end of the year. Granted, Punk was a great heel and the Heyman pairing was brilliant, but the dude was so popular that threatening heart attack victims and pouring Paul Bearer's remains on the Undertaker couldn't get him a sustained heel reaction. That's the truth, people wanted to see him continue to be the anti-establishment figure. They could have had him even remain in the same character, but start to berate legends like Austin and Undertaker. I mean REALLY berate Undertaker, over the times he's tried to bury people alive. Punk was able to point out the stupid things in wrestling, like the futility of a contract signing, and John Cena wlays getting title shots, and he did it without breaking kayfabe. That's a great character and it really is too bad we never got to see that style of Punk continue. Instead of really taking on The Rock and point out essentially that he's an attention seeker, and he does whateve the crowd wants, just like Cena, except, and if he doesn't get his own way he pouts and throws a hissy fit and makes fun of Canada, instead of anything like this, we got "your arms are too short to box with God!" Which maybe be a nice oneliner, but I actually really expected a lot more from PUnk, other than this dastardly villain. I expected him to play with the Undertaker and get the technical guys in the back to turn the lights out and say "See Undertaker, it's not that hard to play mind games" except that when the lights copme back on, Taker is in the ring besdie him. This allows him to point out some of the flaws for the audience who are VERY snarky and actually enjoy pointing out stupid things like this. And it also allows him to get his commuppance. And most importantly, it doesn't break kayfabe, he doesn't say Undertaker is a phony or anything. It really bugs me that some people on this forum don't 'get' CM Punk, and label him as someone who just goes and breaks kayfabe. As if he's not selling Chair Shots, or in the middle of a promo, turns and winks to the crowd 'cause they DO know the secrets. They seem to think that he's someone who looks at wrestling and says how stupid this all is and how dumb it is and he's appluaded for doing so and he's the only one to do this etc etc. CM Punk is only just doing a more snarky version of The Rock's act in 99-00. Like when Rock was feuding with Benoit, and Shane Mchmahon called Rock out and right away Rock just says 'it's a crappy setup, obviously you;'ve got Benoit coming down to attack him, is he under the ring, or up in the rafters, let's just get this over with.' That's what Punk is like. Like when he pointed out Cena gave up bodybuilding to become a sports entertainer. This doesn't break kayfabe. He admonishes Cena while also looking down on him, because CM Punk always considers himself the best 'wrestler' not sports entertainer. /rant
