With the grimy underbelly of the biz exposed numerous times with steroid trials, tragic deaths and beyond, I sense more wrestlers are staying away from the vice of booze, illicit substances and the deadly cocktail of a combo of both. Wrestling is collectively trying to clean up its act and the new talent being produced is a product of this. The era of wrestling as carney sideshow is becoming a bygone artifact. New performers are far less freak and plenty more athlete. Beer-bellied share choppers and musclehead lunkheads still get into the biz but more and more newcomers are 'teh workratesz' kinda guys (for better or for worse).
So while CM Punk made the term famous with a great "I'm better than you" heel gimmick in ROH and later with his own society in WWE, how many wrestlers these days completely abstain from drugs and alcohol?
I've got: CM Punk Seth Rollins Daniel Bryan? Young Bucks?
Anyone else? Balor Devitt? Bob Backlund? Claudio Cesaro?
Just an interesting theory

There are stories of Backlund getting shitfaced, I thought Colt Cabana but he has admitted to being drunk. I think Thumbtack Jack who used to work for czw but allegedly Moxley and other guys corrupted him. Allegedly Brian Christopher didn't drink or anything...until he met the road Dogg and Jamie Dundee. I want to say Josh Prohibition and Sick Nick Mondo but I'm not sure.

I don't believe any of them really. Of all people maybe I'm just conditioned when a wrestler tells me he doesn't drink or do drugs (e.g "I only took steriods twice for medical reasons, brother!") I just think 'bullshit' I can't help it. It's a natural reaction.
I also think if you're so anal not to enjoy a beer occasionally and just get through life eating nettles and elderberries and doing DDP yoga for fun, you're probably too boring for me to believe you in any case.

Flair is very proud of this too, which is kinda disturbing. Nothing wrong with drinking, but turning a straight edger into a heavy drinker is not something to be proud of. Also, add Triple H and Jerry Lawler to the straight edge list.

Lol yeah Lawler is the ultimate straight edge, punk has admitted that he got drunk as a teenager while Jerry has never ever drank alcohol. Poor triple h being the kliq's nanny

Steen and Generico don't drink either.
And I'm pretty sure I've heard that Sami Zayn also doesn't. Odd how that worked out.

Yeah, how dare you guys be able to have fun without getting into a state of intoxication! And of course, credibility falls into how exciting you are. Major life lesson, there.

I think it's more that a lot of them are probably living a more average lifestyle rather than downing bottles of spirits on an hourly basis and snorting cocaine out of prostitutes arseholes all while having several syringes sticking out of their arm. It's not really an all or nothing thing.

It makes sense really.
If you really want your body to be at its peak condition all year long then you can't be pouring drugs and alcohol into it on the reg.
Not to say you can't be healthy and drink, but I'd imagine its easier to not down empty calories and then have to burn them off later.

I always love when people try to say that people who don't drink A) automatically are health nuts and B) are also automatically boring. Trust me. There are plenty of boring drinkers out there who think they can supplement a dull personality with lots of booze. It most definitely does not. Just because you're doing something that was "cool" and "edgy" when you were 17 doesn't mean anyone really cares when you're 25. Connoisseurs, people who pair it with food or people mature enough to know drinking/not drinking doesn't really matter wouldn't assume that someone's boring because they don't drink. On the flip side, I've also met a TON of vegan/vegetarians who are unhealthy as f***. To a worrying degree.

I don't drink or do drugs, not because I have this superiority complex over people who do, but because they have no appeal to me and never did. To people who don't know how to have fun without drinking and/or doing drugs, I'm sure that I'm pretty boring. Conversely, people who can't imagine having a good time without drinking and/or doing drugs are incredibly boring to me. I don't know how many people I've met who I've thought were cool and wanted to hang out with until it became clear that they were going to insist on dressing it up with booze. How anti-climactic.
With that said, I think "straight edge" is utterly retarded, and I would hate to think that anyone would EVER try to define me as a "straight edge" dude just because I abstain from those substances. I am simply a person who does not partake of them, no more and no less.

Everyone has a different view of what straight edge is, so if you ask the right person, I'm sure they'll tell you that none of them are.
I have straight edge friends who go as far to say caffeine is breaking edge. So yeah, it's subjective. Too subjective.
